Duke of Parma claims the throne of Spain

The new Duke of Parma, eldest son of Princess Irene of the Netherlands, has sent a message to the Carlis people, where he recognizes the ideals of his father, the late Duke, and now has formally assumed the Carlist pretension to the throne of Spain.

The Dutch-born Duke of Parma, who succeeded his father last August, claims that the Carlist Christian culture can fight poverty and save democracy in Spain.

The Duke signed his name as Carlos Javier, and is referred to His Catholic Majesty Don Carlos Javier de Borbon, King of Spain.     Bet this communique goes down like a lead balloon with his beloved Aunt Beatrix.

His late father, Don Carlos Hugo, recognized and accepted Juan Carlos as the rightful king of Spain.
