Royal Engagement
June 15, 1920
Princess Elizabeth, the eldest daughter of King Ferdinand and Queen Marie of Roumania, has become betrothed to Prince George, the eldest son of the former King Constantine of the Hellenes, and the brother of King Alexander. The news of the engagement was published in London newspapers, and reported by the Chicago Tribune and other American newspapers.
Prince George and Princess Elizabeth are second cousins, as George's mother, Queen Sophie, and Elizabeth's mother, Queen Marie are first cousins and granddaughters of Queen Victoria.
Princess Elizabeth has been "reported to have been betrothed to a number of European princes in the last two years," but the rumors that she was to marry Prince George "have been the most persistent of these reports."
