Schloss Calenberg up for sale

Prince Ernst August of Hanover, 27, has sold the the family estate at Calenberg, as it is no longer suitable for modern farming.   The young prince's father, Prince Ernst August, 56, grew up at Calenberg.  It had been the family's main residence from 1957 to 1987.  According to the estate agent, Mauritz von Reden, it was a "strategic decision of the Crown Prince to sell the property."
In 2004,  the senior Prince Ernst August, head of the royal house, transferred the family property in Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt to his eldest son. In recent years,  the younger Ernst August has been working to turn Schloss Marienburg into a a tourist attraction.  This schloss, the summer residence of the family, is near Schulenberg.
The proceeds of the sale of Calenberg will go toward the expansion of agriculture and farming in other parts of Germany.
