The Associated Press is reporting that a "republic has been proclaimed in Luxembourg." Grand Duchess Marie-Adelaide is now residing at her chateau near the capital.
For some time now, "there has been agitation in Luxembourg of a republican tendency." On January 10, a large crowd gathered outside the palace in Luxembourg demanding Marie Adelaide's abdication, and the establishment of a republic. There are also reports that Marie Adelaide has decided to leave the country, owing to the unfavorable political situation" since the end of the war.
Luxembourg is about 998 square miles and a population of nearly 300,000.
