Prince Serge Poutiatine was married today to Miss Shirley Manning, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Alexander Manning of Loudonville, New York. The Prince is the son of Prince and Princess Michael Poutiatine of Paris, formerly of Russia, according to a report in the New York Times.
The wedding took place at the Russian Orthodox Church of St. Augustine on Houston Street in New York City. Only "near relatives and a few close friends" attended the ceremony, "which was conducted according to the rites of the Russian Church."
The bride was escorted by her father. She wore a "gown of ivory-colored satin made with a long train and a veil of old point lace, a family heirloom." There were no bridesmaids, according to " Russian custom," but "three of the six ushers were assigned to the bride." During the ceremony, a "crowd was held over the head of both the bride and the bridegroom."
A small reception was held after the wedding at the home of Miss Martha Card Vail, a distant relative of the bride's mother.
The new Princess is 22 years old and her husband is 37.
Prince and Princess Serge will sail at midnight on the Europa for Paris, where they will live. The bride attended Miss Porter's School in Farmington, Connecticut. Prince Serge was "educated in the Corps Des Pages," and served as a captain in the imperial family's own regiment of the Russian Imperial Guard."
The Prince's first marriage to Grand Duchess Marie of Russia was dissolved in 1923.
