Lady Marina Windsor weds Nico Macauley

@Cassius Taylor/PA

Lady Marina-Charlotte Windsor and Nico Macauley were married on June 20th in All Saints Church in Hovingham, North Yorkshire. The bride wore a gown designed by Larissa von Planta.   Her tiara is the Pearl Fringe Tiara worn by her grandmother, the Duchess of Kent; her mother, the Countess of St. Andrews; and her aunt, Lady Helen Taylor.

The reception was held at Hovingham Hall, where the late Duchess of Kent was born.  She was the daughter of Sir William Worsley, 4th Baronet.  The current owner of Hovingham Hall is Sir William Worsley, 6th Baronet, who is Lady Marina's second cousin.

@Rachael Fraser

 Hello! Magazine appears to have made an exclusive deal with Lady Marina and Nico Macauley.

The magazine will go on sale on June 29.

The Church is within walking distance of Hovingham Hall, where the late Duchess of Kent was born.

I assume Nico is Catholic, as he attended Ampleforth College.  His father's Thanksgiving Service was held at St. Paul's Church in Knightsbridge, an Anglican church.

On April 3, 1933, Lady Marina's paternal grandmother, Katharine Worsley, was baptized at All Saints' Church.   Nico's mother, Nicola, lives in Stonegrave, which is a few minutes' drive from Hovingham.

HRH The Duchess of Gloucester celebrates her 80th birthday today.   The Danish-born Birgitte van Deurs moved to England to study English and got a job as a secretary at the Danish Embassy.  It was in London where she met HRH Prince Richard of Gloucester, the younger son of TRH The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.

The couple married in July 1972.  Six weeks later, Richard's older brother, HRH Prince William of Gloucester, was killed in an aviation accident.  Prince Richard, a trained architect, was now the heir to his father's dukedom.  The Duke died in 1974.  Richard and Birgitte were now TRH The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.   They have three children, Alexander, Earl of Ulster, Lady Davina Windsor, and Lady Rose Gilman, and six grandchildren.

Lady Pamela Hicks' funeral

Embed from Getty Images

 The funeral of Lady Pamela Hicks took place at Bartholomew Church in Brightwell Baldwin, Oxfordshire, on June 13th.

From the Court Circular:

"The King and Queen were represented by the Duke of Abercorn KG at the Funeral of the Lady Pamela Hicks (former Lady in Waiting to The late Queen) which was held at St. Bartholomew's Church, Brightwell Baldwin, Oxfordshire, this afternoon.

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, and The Duke of Kent, were represented by the Lady Helen Taylor.

The Princess Royal was represented by the Lady Susan Hussey.

Princess Alexandra, the Hon. Lady Ogilvy was represented by Ms. Lynda Atkins."

The Duke of Abercorn, who will celebrate his 92nd birthday on July 4, served as Lord Steward of the Household to Queen Elizabeth II from 2001 to 2009. He was Chancellor of the Order of the Garter until his retirement in 2024.   The Duke, a first cousin of the late 8th Earl Spencer. was married to Alexandra "Sacha" Phillips (1946-2018).   Sacha was the eldest child of Georgina Wernher and Harold "Bunny" Phillips, who, in the 1930s, had an affair with Lady Pamela's mother, Edwina.  It was Edwina who encouraged Bunny to marry Gina Wernher.  Gina's parents were Sir Harold, Bt, and Lady Zia Wernher, whose sister Nada was married to Lady Pamela's uncle, George, 2nd Marquess of Milford Haven.  Bunny's first cousin, Janet Bryce, was the second wife of George's son, David, 3rd Marquess of Milford Haven.

The Duke of Abercorn was the one who identified the remains of the late Lord Mountbatten after the latter's assassination.  The police had asked Lady Pamela to identify her father. According to India, her mother found the request "most haunting" and a "horrific idea."  As she was preparng to leave, a "close, dear friend," the Duke of Abercorn arrived at Classiebawn.

Lady Pamela turned to the duke: "James, I can't do this. Will you identify him?"  In a very gentle tone, the duke agreed.   Lady Pamela was "forever indebted to him."

Although Edwina had encouraged Bunny's relationship with Gina, she "took the news very badly," according to Lady Pamela's book, Daughter of Empire.  Bunny asked Lady Pamela to be a bridesmaid, but Edwina told her daughter, "that I would be at school that day and it would not be possible."   The wedding date had not been announced.

The Duke and the late Duchess of Abercorn remained close friends of the Mountbattens and the British Royal Family.  Gina Wernher was one of the late Queen's lifelong friends.

The guests at the funeral included Lady Pamela's three children: Edwina, Ashley, and India, and their children, with the exception of Ashley's two young sons, Caspar and Horatio.  The Countess Mountbatten of Burma and her daughter, Lady Alexandra Hooper, also attended.  Lady Mountbatten is the daughter-in-law of Lady Pamela's late sister, Patricia, 2nd Countess Mountbatten of Burma.

Crown Prince Alexander and family attend Golden Wedding anniversary

@Clement Morin/Swedish Royal Court

Stockholm, 14 June 2026 – TRH Crown Prince Alexander, Crown Princess Katherine, Hereditary Prince Philip, and Princess Danica were once again this year guests of the Royal Family of Sweden. Their Royal Highnesses attended the celebrations marking the Golden Wedding Jubilee of Their Majesties King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden, held in Stockholm on 13 and 14 June.

The Serbian Royal Family joined members of Royal houses from across Europe and distinguished international guests in commemorating the fiftieth wedding anniversary of the Swedish Sovereigns, a remarkable milestone reflecting five decades of their love, joint service, and devotion to the Kingdom of Sweden and its people.

On this joyful occasion, HRH Crown Prince Alexander conveyed warm congratulations to Their Majesties on behalf of the Royal Family of Serbia. "It was a great honour for my family and me to participate in the celebration of this extraordinary jubilee. King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia have devoted their lives to the service of Sweden with dignity and unwavering commitment. My family and I extend our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Their Majesties on their Golden Wedding Jubilee, wishing them many more years of happiness, good health, and continued success. We are grateful for their friendship and for the warm hospitality shown to us in Stockholm."

The day’s programme began with a solemn Te Deum service at the Royal Chapel of the Royal Palace, attended by members of the Swedish Royal Family and invited guests. Following the service, Their Majesties hosted a luncheon at the Royal Palace.

In the afternoon, the Royal Family and guests gathered to witness the ceremonial departure of Their Majesties from Skeppsbron pier aboard the Royal barge Vasaorden, followed by a festive procession through Stockholm. The King and Queen rode in the same carriage they used on their wedding day 50 years ago. The celebrations continued in the evening with a special concert at the Royal Opera House, followed by a gala dinner hosted by Their Majesties at the Royal Palace. The distinguished gathering concluded with an evening reception and entertainment in the historic White Sea Ballroom.

Hereditary Prince Philip and Princess Danica presented the King and Queen of Sweden with the icon of the White Angel, handmade by the nuns of the Mileseva Monastery, with the blessing of Metropolitan Atanasije of Mileseva. “The choice of the White Angel carries deep symbolism. This famous detail of the Mileseva fresco has been one of the most recognizable symbols of Serbian spirituality for centuries, but also a universal message of peace, hope, and resurrection,” said Prince Philip.

He added that the White Angel, in the context of the golden jubilee, symbolizes half a century of unity, trust, and loyalty. The gift is especially precious because the icon is handmade by the nuns of the Mileseva Monastery, combining art, prayer and centuries-old tradition.

@Jonas Estromer/TT News Agency

Prince Philip and Princess Danica presented Crown Princess Victoria with a limited edition of the monograph “The Christian Heritage of Kosovo and Metohija”, with the blessing of Metropolitan Teodosije of Raška and Prizren. The monograph is a testament to the richness of Serbian spiritual and cultural heritage and is dedicated to the most important shrines of Kosovo and Metohija – Dečani, Gračanica, the Patriarchate of Peć, and the Virgin of Ljeviška. In addition, Crown Princess Victoria was presented with a Pirot rug made in the workshop of the domestic brand MACCINDO, one of the most recognizable symbols of Serbian folk art and craft tradition.

On Sunday, 14 July, TRH Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine were the guests of Their Majesties at the luncheon at the Royal Yacht “Norge”, while TRH Hereditary Prince Philip and Princess Danica were guests of TRH Crown Princess Victoria and her husband Prince Daniel at a lunch held at the Naval Officers' Mess, Hotel Skeppsholmen. Earlier that day, Prince Philip and Princess Danica attended the Holy Liturgy at the Serbian Church of St. Sava in Stockholm.

@Christine Olsson/TT News Agency

Together with the Royal Family of Serbia, the Royal families of Europe were present: The Royal family of Sweden, including HRH Crown Princess Victoria and her husband HRH Prince Daniel, HRH Prince Oscar, HRH Prince Carl Philip and HRH Princess Sofia, HRH Princess Madeleine and Mr Christopher O’Neill, and HRH Princess Christina and her husband Mr Tord Magnuson. Present were also HM King Harald V, HM Queen Sonja of Norway, HRH Princess Benedikte of Denmark, HIH Princess Takamado of Japan, and many other Royals.

Their Royal Highnesses expressed their sincere gratitude to the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in the Kingdom of Sweden for its dedicated assistance and support during the visit, which greatly contributed to the success of this important engagement.

Lady Pamela's funeral

The funeral is the same day as the Trooping the Colour.   The Church is St. Bartholomew's Church, the same church where India Hicks and David Flint Wood were married, but, contrary to several reports, it is not the church where India Hicks was baptized.  Her christening took place at St. Mary's Ewelme.

65 years ago - the wedding of the Duke of Kent and Katharine Worsley

Embed from Getty Images

 The Duke of Kent and Katharine Worsley were married on June 8, 1961, at York Minster.   The Duke, 25, was the eldest son of the late Prince George, Duke of Kent, and Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark. Prince Edward was only 6 years old when his father died in an air crash while on active duty in August 1942.

His bride, Katharine Lucy Worsley, two years his senior, was the youngest child of Sir William Worsley, 4th Bt.  The young duke was smitten with the Yorkshire-born lass, but his mother, determined to find him a royal bride, threw numerous obstacles in her son's way. She eventually agreed to the marriage.

Princess Désirée's legacy

@Maja Suslin/TT

 Princess Désirée, Baroness Silfverschiöld, has left an inheritance worth $13,300,000, according to the Swedish newspaper Expressen.  The princess's estate included cash and securities, jewelry ($105,524), and an apartment in Santa Ponsa ($68,600).  Her late sister, Princess Birgitta, also lived in the same area.

The princess's inheritance will be shared by her two daughters, Baroness Christina Louise De Geer, 59, and Baroness Hélène Silfverschiöld, 57.  Her will excludes her eldest child, Baron Carl Silfverschiöld.

Princess Désirée provided a statement in her will as Carl was "compensated well " in her husband's will, "regarding both his private property and the property he holds wth fiduciary rights."

Baron Niclas Silfverschiöld died in 2017.   Carl inherited his father's private fortune ($2,745,000) and the Koberg and Gåsevadsholm trust, which is worth $53 million.   After his death, Niclas's family trust was terminated and replaced with a limited liability company.  Baron Carl is the CEO of Kobergs och Gåsevadholms Fideikommiss AB and Koberg Förvaltning AB, which manages Koberg Castle and other properties.

After Baron Niclas's will was settled, his two daughters received a payout from the estate.

The Princess, who was the third sister of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, died on January 21st at the age of 87.

A Wedding Observation

Embed from Getty Images

The Princess Royal loves to go shopping in her closet, as she is often seen wearing an item of clothing, dress, sweater, or even a hat that she first wore decades earlier.    July 27, 1981 - she wore the hat at her daughter, Zara's, christening.

@Lichfield

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh were accompanied by their son, Lord Wessex.   Their elder child, Lady Louise Windsor, was not present.  Perhaps she was working and could not get the day off.

Zara and Mike Tindall's two daughters, Mia and Lena, attended the wedding, but their little brother, Lucas, 5, remained at home.  Also missing from the wedding were Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis of Wales.  All three children are under the age of 13 -- and Lambrook School has Saturday School.

Although Lord Snowdon has attended events, including Royal Ascot and the Chelsea Flower Show, with Isabelle de la Bruyère, this is the first time she has attended a family event.  Will there be a new Countess of Snowdon in the not-too-distant future?

Presenting Mr. and Mrs. Peter Phillips

Embed from Getty Images

 There were plenty of smiles but no sunshine in Kemble, Gloucestershire, when the newly married Peter and Harriet Phillips emerged from All Saints' Church to a posse of reporters and photographers.

Peter Phillips is the elder child of the Princess Royal and her first husband, Mark Phillips. His new wife is Harriet Sperling, an NHS pediatric nurse.   They met several years earlier at a sporting event where their daughters were competing. Peter's two daughters, Savannah, 15, and Isla, 14, from his first marriage to Autumn Phillips,  and Harriet's 13-year-old daughter, Georgina, have been "good friends long before their parents caught each other's eye".

Harriet and her first husband, Antonio St. John Sperling, were divorced when Georgina was about two years old.

The bride's "high-necked gown and full veil was designed by Emilia Wickstead, who also designed the bridesmaid gowns. Her attendants were her daughter, Georgina, and stepdaughters, Savannah and Isla.

Harriet's father, Rupert Sanders, died in 2003. Her mother, Mary, and her three siblings, Nicholas, Louisa, and Rebecca, along with their families, were also at the wedding. It was Nicholas who escorted his sister down the aisle.

Harriet's ivory satin shoes were made by Jimmy Choo. Her Tiara was loaned by Mayfair jeweler, Pragnell. The jeweler also provided the earrings.

A description from the tiara.

"This intricate tiara dazzles the eye by showcasing a design typical of both the Edwardian and Deco periods - which is very rare in all jewellery. Diamonds highlight a festoon of glittering laurel leaves and articulated floral motifs, bearing great resemblance to the tiara owned by The Princess Royal, in the official photograph celebrating her fiftieth birthday in 2000.

Favoured as a bridal headpiece and owned by the Pragnell family, this delicate tiara has been worn by generations of Pragnell family members and was present at the Coronation of both King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II."

Her bouquet, designed by Millie Richardson, featured sweet peas, myrtle, and lily of the valley. It is known if the myrtle came from Osborne, where a sprig from Queen Victoria's bouquet was planted. Sprigs from descendants of the original myrtle have been used in royal bouquets for many years,

The guests included the King and Queen, the Prince and Princess of Wales, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, the Earl of Wessex, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, and their husbands,  Lord Snowdon and his girlfriend, Isabelle de la Bruyère, and his daughter, Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones,  Daniel and Lady Sarah Chatto, Sam Chatto and his girlfriend, Eleanor Ekserdjian, and the groom's half-sister, Stephanie and her husband, William Hosier.

A bespoke reception, planned by Bentley's Entertainment, was held at Gatcombe Park, where Princess Anne and Sir Timothy Laurence live. Both her children, Peter and Zara, and their families also have homes on the estate. Bentley's Entertainment was founded by Peregrine Armstrong-Jones,  the much younger half-brother of the late Antony, 1st Earl of Snowdon.

[Peregrine is 11 months older than his half-nephew, David, 2nd Earl of Snowdon.]

The King and Queen did not attend the reception. After the service, they headed for an official engagement at the Epsom Derby.
