Queen Victoria left Darmstadt at 3 p.m. for Baden-Baden, "previously receiving several members of the Grand Ducal family and household," according to The Times. In the afternoon, the Prince and Princess of Wales, Crown Prince Friedrich of Germany and the Grand Duke of Hesse visited the Alice Hospital and School for nurses, which was named for the Grand Duke's late wife, Princess Alice of Great Britain and Ireland. According to the Times' account, the "prosperity of this charitable institution was especially dear to the deceased Grand Duchess." The royal party inspected a memorial tablet in honor of the late Grand Duchess. More than £4000 was raised in England to support the work of the hospital.
