American girl to be a princess

April 7, 1928

London society "is said to be excited" by the announcement of the engagement of an American girl, Marguerite Watson, to Prince Charles-Philippe of Orléans, Duke de Nemours, "reports the Chicago Tribune press service.

The details of the marriage "are being kept in the strictest secrecy." The duke is the heir "to some of the finest property in the world, including an estate in Neuilly. He is also a "skilled airman."

The future princess, who is described as a "pretty American girl," by the New York Times, is convalescing in a London nursing home from an appendectomy. Miss Watson, and her fiance, who is the son of the Duchess of Vendome, sister of King Albert of the Belgians, arrived in London two weeks ago. Not long afterward, Marguerite suffered an "acute attack of appendicitis," and underwent an immediate operation.

The marriage is expected to take place in London within "a week or two." While Marguerite recuperates, her fiance is making the wedding arrangements, including applying for the marriage license. He is 23, and his bride is "said to be somewhat older."

I have always thought these two were an interesting couple, but not much is out there on them, thanks for putting this article up. Bea
