Olga asks for America aid
April 6, 1920
Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna of Russia, now in exile in Belgrade. has sent an appeal "on behalf of the refugee Russians in Siberia," to the National Lutheran Council in New York City. Her cabled appeal was received simultaneously with a report from Dr. J.A. Morehead, the European representative of the National Lutheran Council. Dr. Morehead says, according to the New York Times, that the Balkans "particularly need relief and church reconstruction is enormous."
The Grand Duchess' cable is as follows: "Having met Professor Morehead and heard from him of the relief work his commission has done and is doing in various countries of Europe, I can only find hope that this good work can be extended to Russian refugees in Siberia and elsewhere. May I also express with all my heart the hope after these trying years that the Christians of America may at the earliest practicable moment come to the aid of my suffering countrymen in Russia."
