Leap Year baby for Princess Alexandra

February 29, 1964

Princess Alexandra gave birth to a son today, according to the New York Times.  The leap year baby is 13th in line of succession to the throne, but he will drop to 16th after three other royal births "expected later this year."

Princess Alexandra, 27, was married last April to the Hon. Angus Ogilvy, second son of the Earl and Countess of Airlie.   The princess is a first cousin of Queen Elizabeth, and is the daughter of the late Duke of Kent and Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent.

The baby was born at their home, Thatched House Lodge in Richmond Park, Surrey.  His name has not been announced.  He will not have a title, as he is the son of a younger son of an earl.

Queen Elizabeth II expects a fourth child next month.  Princess Margaret, the Queen's sister, and the Duchess of Kent, sister-in-law of Princess Alexandra, are also expecting babies.

Marlene, do you have a multi-region/region-free DVD player? i myself invested in an inexpensive one several years back to view the international documentaries, specifically "A Royal Family," and have since started a decent collection of programs which were not released in US format.

anyway, if you do happen to have one, i wanted to ask if you have the program "Aren med Kungafamiljen," or Years of Royal Family, from Sweden. the program is in swedish, but has english subtitles. it's 3 discs, covering the years from 1976-2009. anyway, i've found myself in a position to have a second copy of this, and wanted to know if you would want it should you be able to play it & not already have a copy of your own. personally i find it extremely interesting as it contains clips of face-to-camera questions with each of the royals (the king, queen, and their children) and behind the scenes type things.

i won't be able to put it in the mail for a few weeks, but if you do want it, i'd be happy to send it to you (free of charge, of course). if for whatever reason i don't give it to you i will probably put it on ebay, because although i've watched it it's in perfect condition and i could make a little money off it, but i wouldn't want to charge you because i enjoy the work you put into this blog... and appreciate how you patiently answer my many questions. ;-)
