It is a Princess

May 24, 1819

"Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Kent was safely delivered of a Princess this morning at a quarter past four o'clock.  Her Royal Highness and the Princess are doing well."

Although Doctor David Daniel Davis was in attendance on the Duchess of Kent,  the princess was delivered by a woman, Dr. Charlotte von Siebold.  It is understood that he did not take an active role in the delivery of the princess.

The infant Princess born today at Kensington Palace is 5th in line to the throne after HRH The Prince Regent (Prince of Wales),  the Duke of York, the Duke of Clarence and the Duke of Kent, who is the father of the newborn.

The newborn girl was said to be a "pretty little princess as plump as a partridge."

The Duke of Kent remained at his wife's side throughout her labor, which lasted six and a quarter hours.  The Duke of Sussex and the Duke of Wellington and other members of the Privy Council "waited in an adjoining room."

On March 27,  the Duchess of Clarence gave birth to a daughter,  Charlotte Augusta Louise,  in Hanover. The infant princess died several hours after her birth and baptism.  It is expected that the Duchess of Clarence will have more children, and these princes & princesses will remain ahead of the infant Kent princess in the line of succession.

A younger brother or brothers will push the infant princess further down the line of succession.

This is so cool that Queen Victoria was delivered by a female doctor!!! I had never read this bit of news until now. Thank you for bringing these excellent bits of information to us. I'm about to donate to your cause so that you can continue to do so!
