Prince Johann Nepomuk of Schwarzenberg died today at his Vienna palace after a long illness. The Prince was 78 years old.
The prince was the head of the "famous Austrian family which before the World War was among the largest landowners in Europe." He was the ninth of his line. He was also the Duke of Krumau, "the little Bohemian district which on the day of his death figured in world events as the scene of the first German occupation of the Sudetenland," according to the Associated Press dispatch.
Prince Johann Nepomuk Adolf Maria Hubert Maximin was born on May 29, 1860 at Vienna, the second child, but the eldest son of Adolf Joseph, 8th Prince of Schwarzenberg and Princess Ida of Liechtenstein. On August 27, 1889, the prince married Countess Therese of Trauttmansdorff-Weisnberg. He is survived by his widow and six children, Adolf, who succeeds as the head of the house, Ida Countess Revertera von Salandra, Josephine, Countess Czernin von und zu Chudenitz; Princess Anna; Maria Benedicta, Princess of Croy, and Therese, Baroness von Guttenberg.
Two sons, Prince Karl and Prince Edmund, predeceased their father.
The new Prince of Schwarzenbeg is married to Princess Hilda of Luxembourg. As they have no children, the heir presumptive is the late Prince's younger brither, Prince Felix, who is married to Princess Anna of Löwenstein-Wertheimp-Rosenberg.
