Prince Albert of Belgium and his bride, Duchess Elisabeth in Bavaria, received a warm welcome this afternoon at Brussels' Town Hall, according to a report in the New York Times. The Socialist members of the Municipal Council did not attend the ceremony.
After the ceremony, the couple "appeared on a balcony facing the square, where school children were assembled to the number of 5,000." The children waved Belgian and Bavarian flags, and then sang a "popular patriotic hymn.
The Prince and Princess "stood at the head of the grand staircase," and watched as the children, and then the representatives of numerous societies march by, "each delegation throwing flowers at the feet of the princess."
