Princess Elisabeth zu Ysenburg und Büdingen (1945-2024)

 


HH Princess Elisabeth Marie Alexandra of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg was the eldest daughter of HH Prince Friedrich Ferdinand Karl Ernst August Wilhelm Harald Kasimir Nicola of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (1913-1089) and HH Duchess Anastasia Alexandrine Cecile Marie-Louise Wilhelmine of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (1922-1979).

Duchess Anastasia was the youngest of five children of HH Friedrich Franz IV, Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (1882-1945), and HRH Princess Alexandra Luise Marie Olga Elisabeth Therese Vera of Hanover of Cumberland, Princess of Hanover (1882-1963)

Princess Elisabeth married HSH Prince Ferdinand-Heinrich Karl August Hermann Gotthard of Ysenburg-Büdingen  (1940-1989) on January 5, 1975, at Schloss Glücksburg.

 The couple had two sons, HSH Prince Johann-Georg Gerd Max Alexander Sylvester Gisbert and HSH Prince Ludwig-Ferdinand Wittekind Heinrich Friedrich-August Joachim (1979).  

The funeral will occur on August 22 in the chapel at Schloss Glücksburg.

The late princess was the Royal Patron of the Sovereign Military Order Temple of Jerusalem.



The Princess is survived by her two sons, Prince Johann Georg and Prince Ludwig Ferdinand, four grandchildren, Princess Anna Carolina, Princess Xenia-Amalia, Prince Ferdinand, and Caspar of Ysenburg u Büdingen, and her three sisters, Princess Irene of Schleswig-Holstein, Princess Margaretha of Schleswig Holstein, and Princess Sybilla of Schleswig-Holstein, Frau Franz.  

She was a descendant of King Christian IX of Denmark and King George III

Christian IX - Thyra - Alexandra - Anastasia - Elisabeth

George III - Ernest Augustus (King Ernst August V of Hanover) -  George V - Ernst August - Alexandra -Anastasia - Elisabeth.
