Is the Duchess of Brabant dating a fellow student?

Embed from Getty Images

Today's Het Laatste Nieuws, a Dutch-language Belgian newspaper, features an exclusive by their royal correspondent Wim Dehandschutter.    Princess Elisabeth, Duchess of Brabant, the heir to the throne, is "said to be in love for the first time," according to Dehanschutter.   The young man is Rochford-born Nicholas Alexander Dodd.    The 20-year-old Briton is a student at Lincoln College, Oxford, where Princess Elisabeth also studies.

Princess Elisabeth is the eldest child of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde.

The couple first met in 2021 at Matriculation Day, the start of Oxford's Academic year.   Elisabeth, 22, studies history and politics, and Nicholas is "enrolled in the history program."  They joined the same study group, and, according to Dehanschutter, "there was an immediate connection.

Nicholas and Elisabeth have also written essays together, and are often in each other's company.  Wim Dehandshutter's source says the relationship between the couple "transcends friendship."

Nicholas graduated from Rochdale Sixth Form College where he wrote about applying to Oxford University.  He said: "I applied to Oxford because I wanted the opportunity to study at a world-class university."

https://www.rochdalesfc.ac.uk/144/case-studies/case-study/4/nicholas-dodd

In 2019, Nicholas, a former head boy at Beech House School in Rochdale,  was nominated for the ISA Whitbread Prize.  At the time, the school's principal said, "Nicholas was nominated for his involvement in – and service to – wider aspects of school and community life; in conjunction with achieving academic excellence in GCSE results."

[ISA stands for Independent Schools Association.]

Nicholas's family, however, has thrown cold water on this story.  The Manchester Evening News is reporting that his family has "shut down rumors" of a romance with Princess Elisabeth.  The newspaper's reporter visited Dodd's home in Whitworth and spoke to a family member who chose to remain anonymous.  The reporter asked if Nicholas was dating Princess Elisabeth.

The family member said "No, that's false.  They just go to the same college and study together.  Just like all his other friends, I can't comment further."

There will be no comment from the Belgian Royal Palace, which does not discuss Princess Elisabeth's private life.

Will Princess Theodora and Matthew Kumar ever get married?

King Constantine II and Queen Anne Marie of Greece announced the engagement of their younger daughter, Princess Theodora of Greece and Denmark to Matthew Jeremiah Kumar, a Los Angeles lawyer, on November 16, 2018.

https://royalmusingsblogspotcom.blogspot.com/2018/11/a-royal-engagement-princess-theodora-of.html

The wedding was originally scheduled to take place in Greece in late May 2020.  The Covid pandemic changed the couple's plans.

@HRH Princess Theodora of Greece and Denmark/Instagram

On May 25, 2020,  Princess Theodora posted a photo of herself and her fiance with these words: "On what should have been our wedding weekend - the love and support from friends and family have been so appreciated. We can’t wait to celebrate with all of you in Greece once it’s safe."

In December 2022, the princess' family revealed that the "wedding will take place in early summer 2023 in Porto Heli, Greece.  A month later, on January 10, 2023, King Constantine II died in Athens at 82.

It was noted that Theodora's wedding would again be postponed.  It has been 13 months since the death of the King.  Theodora's most recent Instagram post was on March 10, 2023.  Understandably, the Princess would want to grieve for her adored father who could not escort her down the aisle. Princess Theodora will celebrate her 41st birthday in June.

Perhaps there is another reason for a further delay.   On June 29, 2023,  the Supreme Court of California "issued an order suspending attorney Matthew J. Kumar from the practice of law for one year, with the execution of suspension stayed."  Kumar was placed on probation for one year.

The case "In the matter of Matthew J. Kumar" was brought by the California State Bar.  Kumar was found guilty "of multiple violations related to his handling of client trust (CTA) account funds."   He "allegedly commingled personal and law funds in the CTA," using the funds "to pay personal expenses."

Kumar also failed to "respond to the State Bar's inquiries regarding the disciplinary investigation."

He must comply with the California Supreme Court order with "conditions recommended by the State Bar Court on March 27, 2023.  These conditions include "providing proof of passing Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination.  If Kumar complies with the order, the "suspension stay and probation" will terminate after one year.

Matthew Kumar owns the FarMar Law Group, which specializes in debt collection.

However, today a Greek news site states that the wedding will take place in Athens in the fall of 2024.

From Google translate: "The wait for the couple is coming to an end, as within 2024 they will be able to unite with the sacred bonds of marriage."

A royal engagement: Princess Charlotte of Nassau to marry

@HRH Princess Charlotte of Nassau - Instagram

On February 11, 2024, on top of a mountain in Gstaad, Switzerland,  Princess Charlotte of Nassau said yes to her boyfriend, Mansour Shakarchi.  They have been friends for more than 12 years. It was in October 2019 when Charlotte said she came out of "the friend zone" and realized she was in love with Mansour -- and he with her.

HRH Princess Charlotte-Katherine-Justine-Marie of Nassau is HRH Prince Robert of Luxembourg's only daughter and eldest child.   She was born on March 20, 1995, at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.

Prince Robert of Luxembourg is the second child and only son of the late Prince Charles of Luxembourg (1927-1977) and Joan Douglas Dillon.   He is a grandson of the late Grand Duchess Charlotte of Luxembourg and Prince Felix of Bourbon-Parma and is a first cousin of Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg.    Joan Douglas Dillon (1935) has been described as "a larger-than-life lady, with an indefinable, cultured, mid-Atlantic accent."  She is the daughter of the late C. Douglas Dillon (1909-2003), who served as Ambassador to France and Secretary of the Treasury, during the Eisenhower and Kennedy administrations.

Clarence Dillon's paternal grandfather, Samuel Lapowski, a Jew, emigrated from Poland to Texas, where he established a dry goods business. He married Bertha Stenbock, the daughter of a Swedish immigrant.  The family became naturalized citizens.  Their children were raised in their mother's Lutheran faith.  In 1901, Samuel changed the family's surname to Dillon, based on his French maternal grandmother, Paulina, whose maiden name was Dylion.  C. Douglas Dillon was Samuel's grandson.

Three years after the death of Prince Charles,  Princess Joan married Philippe, 8th Duke of Mouchy (1922-2011).  She is now known as the Dowager Duchess of Mouchy.

Prince Robert married Julie Ongaro in January 1994 in Boston.  This marriage was non-dynastic.  Julie was known as Julie de Nassau and their three children were styled as Countess Charlotte, Count Alexandre, and Count Frederik of Nassau until November 27, 2004, when Grand Duke Henri issued a decree that elevated Julie to HRH Princess Julie of Nassau. The three children were granted the style and title of HRH Princess or Prince of Nassau.

Although Robert retains his right of succession, his children are not in the line of succession Luxembourg throne.  Prince Robert and his sister, Princess Charlotte, who lives in London, are invited to major Luxembourg royal events, such as a wedding, but neither carry out official duties.

Prince Robert is the president of Domaine Clarence Dillon,  the family organization founded his his great-grandfather, Clarence Dillon, in 1935.

Princess Charlotte also has American ancestry through her mother, Julie, whose father, Theodore is a urologist in Massachusetts.   Julie's mother, Katherine, is an artist who "creates exquisite porcelain masterpieces."

The late C. Douglas Dillon and his wife, Anne, built a summer home on Isleboro island in Maine, which remains in the family.  Prince Robert and his older sister, Charlotte, and their families spend the summers in Isleboro.   In 2019, Charlotte, who was named after her aunt and her great-grandmother, graduated from Tufts University with a  BA in International Literacy and Visual Studies.

Since 2020, the princess has worked for Chanel in London.  She is currently the Communication & E-Business executive for Fashion Marketing.   She is the first cousin of Louis Cunningham, who played Louis XVI in the recent mini-series, Marie Antoinette.

The Crown The State The People: a documentary about Crown Prince Alexander

Wolf Entertainment has released the teaser trailer for “The Crown, The State and The People,” the highly anticipated documentary series from Mr. Lazar Vukovic, uncovering the life story of HRH Crown Prince Alexander of Serbia.

Set to premiere this autumn, “The Crown, The State and The People” uncovers the complex history, and exciting but true story, of how the Royal family of Serbia, situated at the crossroads between Eastern and Western influences strived to save the crown while serving the people and the homeland, to the extent that HRH Crown Prince Alexander was born in a London hotel room, which was declared Yugoslav soil for 24 hours so that the heir to the throne is born in his country. The docuseries also follow intriguing cases, such as the “looted gold”, which has been speculated for many years, family heirlooms that have been locked in a safe deposit box for several decades, and the confiscation of the entire private property of the Royal family.

The teaser is available to be watched on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMPImz5vciI

Directed by filmmaker Lazar Vukovic, “The Crown, The State and The People” uncovers Royal family secrets that haven’t been public knowledge until now. “For the first time, HRH Crown Prince Alexander of Serbia shares his life story publicly. From being born in exile in London, then the godmother at his christening the late Queen Elizabeth II, being made an enemy of the state at 2 years old would seem like a prologue to a best-selling fiction book.

This docuseries is going to be available in all languages using the power of an advanced AI technology that we’ve developed in-house, which is going to be a world-first”, said Mr. Vukovic.

“As I was very happy to begin the filming in the very place where my life journey started, in Claridge’s hotel in London in March last year, I am now even more thrilled to see this trailer. The series will be interesting for the broader public, and I am grateful to so many other people, who already have and who will take part and join me in telling my life story. You have seen only part of them in the trailer, so expect much more”, said HRH Crown Prince Alexander.

February 10, 1904

Princess Alice of Albany married Prince Alexander of Teck this afternoon at St. George's Chapel, at Windsor Castle, reports the New York Times.

The Princess is the daughter of the late Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany, and his wife, Princess Helen, of Waldeck und Pyrmont.   Prince Alexander is the youngest of four children of the late Duke of Teck and the late Princess Mary Adelaide of Cambridge.   The Princess of Wales is Alexander's older sister.

The Archbishop of Canterbury officiated at the wedding ceremony and Princess Alice's uncle, King Edward VII, gave away the bride.   Alice's brother, the Duke of Albany (and the Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, walked her down the aisle.

The ceremony was "very elaborate and brilliant," with four processions to the chapel: the Queen of Württemberg, Queen Emma of the Netherlands, King Edward and Queen Alexandra, and, lastly, the bride.

The wedding was a "brilliant assemblage of members of royal families, foreign princes" and other "distinguished personages."  The men wore Court dress, while the women were attired in evening wear.    The "display of jewels was magnificent."

Princess Alice's wedding gown was made from a "new material, satin charmeuse, which is of the richness of satin and ivory whiteness. Her train, according to the Times, is "over a yard and a half long on the ground," and it is embroidered in a design of fine chenille fringe with raised roses in white chiffon, caught at intervals with bows of white velvet ribbon, and studded with brilliant."

The bride was attended by five bridesmaids,  Princess Mary of Wales, Princess Mary of Teck,  Princess Margaret of Connaught, Princess Patricia of Connaught, and Princess Helene of Waldeck-Pyrmont, who wore "dresses of pale blue crepe de chine, with insertions and flouncings of lace.  The two older Connaught Princesses' gowns included "broad waistbelts of silver."   The three younger princesses carried Princess Alice's train.   All five wore "wreaths of forget-me-nots in their hair, with a spray of heather.

After the wedding, a luncheon was held in St George's Hall at Windsor Castle.

The Duchess of Albany is a sister of Queen Emma of the Netherlands.

The guests included Queen Emma of the Netherlands, the Queen of Württemberg, the Prince and Princess of Wales, Princess Louise, Duchess of Fife, and the Duke of Fife,  Princess Victoria, Prince Carl of Denmark, the Duke and Duchess of Connaught, Prince and Princess Christian of Schleswig-Holstein, the Duchess of Albany, the Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, the Prince and Princess of Waldeck und Pyrmont, the Prince and Princess of Bentheim and Steinfurt, Princess Alexandra of Schaumburg-Lippe, Princess Luise of Wied, Prince Arthur, Princess Margaret and Princess Patricia of Connaught, Prince and Princess Louis of Battenberg, Princess Helena Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein, the Duke and Duchess of Teck, the Duke of Argyll and Prince Francis of Teck.  Count Albert von Mensdorff and the Countesses Feodora, Valda, and Helena Gleichen were also present at the wedding.

After leaving the reception, the new Princess Alexander of Teck was dressed in a dress made from white cloth, "trimmed with stone marten fur."  Her coat and hat matched her going-away dress.

The Duchess of Albany and the Princess of Wales took an "active interest" in Alice's wedding dresses.

Prince and Princess Alexander of Teck left Windsor Castle in the afternoon and are now at Brocket Hall, near Hatfield, where they will spend the first part of their honeymoon.  The newlyweds will then travel to Cannes to stay at Villa Nevada, the Duchess of Albany's residence.

In the evening, King Edward VII hosted a grand banquet at Windsor Castle in the couple's honor.

CROWN PRINCE ALEXANDER’S STATEMENT FOLLOWING THE NEWS ABOUT KING CHARLES’ HEALTH

Following the worrying news about the health of His Majesty King Charles III of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms, HRH Crown Prince Alexander issues the following statement:

“Deeply concerned by the condition which most unfortunately, affected my dear cousin and friend, HM King Charles III, and moved by his courage, despite the disease, sharing his personal health condition with his people, I am sending the following message of support, but also of understanding, and compassion. The love of all of us who know him, and of his people, we deeply care for him, will support His Majesty in persevering and winning this most important battle. The news that it is early stage gives high hope.

The unfortunate news about cancer is not something you wish to hear. And I can say it personally, as I very well know how you feel once you hear it. How frightening and terrifying it is also for the family, how all the feelings get mixed up, and how you cannot think about anything else. I can say it now because I only recently defeated cancer. I had avoided speaking about it, as it is a personal matter concerning only me and my family, but King Charles’ openness moved me and encouraged me to also speak up.

I am sharing this now, because this kind of tragic news can encourage people to react and take care of their health. The statistics already show that once heard about the previous condition His Majesty had with the prostate, the number of check-ups in the United Kingdom has highly risen. That is why people should hear my story, to see it is something that can happen to all of us. But when we are responsible, the outcome can be good.

In December last year, I found out that I have early-stage prostate cancer. The year before, I was on my regular check-up, the doctors performed an MRI exam and saw something suspicious. They did a biopsy, and everything was ok at that time. A year later, although I did not have any problems, an MRI scan again showed worrying images, but this time the biopsy results showed the word we are all afraid of. At that moment, I was terrified. But I was not alone. I am not speaking about family and friends who knew this and shared their support, which meant so much and cannot be described in words, but also all the other people who are fighting this disease. After that, I listened to the doctor’s orders strictly, did all the necessary pre-intervention tests, had surgery, did all the mandatory check-ups after the operation, and finally, got the most joyous words from my doctor – “All is clear now”.

I am strictly planning to continue regular doctor controls in the future, I appeal to everyone to follow this example and do the same. Be responsible with yourself, listen to the doctor’s advice, and monitor your health, preserve it, and nurture it as the greatest wealth and gift you will ever receive. And to conclude, I am hoping with all my heart His Majesty the King, my dear friend and cousin, will also be triumphant.”
