HSH Prince Max Egon Gottfried of Hohnlohe-Langenburg was born on November 11, 1924, in Seregélyes, Hungary, the second child of four children of HSH Prince Ludwig Erwein Gottfried Karl Eduard Maria of Hohenlohe-Langenburg (1892-1945) and Countess Amalia Hadik de Futak (1894-1967).
He was a scion of the Roman Catholic branch of the Hohenlohe-Langenburg princely family. His paternal grandfather was HSH Prince Gottfried Karl Joseph of Hohenlohe-Langenburg (1860-1933).
Prince Max's uncle was Prince Max Egon of Hohenlohe-Langenburg (1897-1968), who married Doña Maria de la Piedad d'Iturbe y Schlotz, Marquesa de Belvis de las Navas. This marriage established the Spanish branch of the Hohenlohe-Langenburgs. His first cousin was HSH Prince Alfonso of Hohenlohe-Langenburg (1924-2003), who established the Marbella Club.
Prince Max was married twice. His first marriage to Ute von Freyhold ended in divorce.
He is survived by his second wife, Ulla, three children: Princess Andrea, Prince Hubertus, and Prince Christian, and four grandchildren: Leonie and Ava (Andrea's children), and Prince Conrad and Prince Casimir of Hohenlohe-Langenburg.
