In March, I reported that Casilda Guerrero-Burgos y Fernández de Córdoba, 21st Duchess of Cardona, and her husband, Don Rodrigo Moreno de Borbón, were expecting their first child. Two months later, the Duchess gave birth to a son, Juan Ramón, on May 7, 2026, at the La Paz University Hospital in Madrid. This is the second child for the 44-year-old Duchess, and the first for Don Rodrigo, who is 64 years old.
The Duchess recently spoke to the Spanish magazine, Hola, describing her son as a "deeply longed-for child, whose arrival has marked the end of a long journey through pain and loss.
"He is a miracle child. He arrived after I lost four late-term pregnancies. I lost a child every year." She thanked Dr. Juana Crespo of Valencia, who discovered why she was having difficulty carrying a child to full term. "She operated on me twice, and thanks to that, I was able to have this miracle child."
The Duchess's 15-year-old daughter, Casildita, is delighted to be a big sister. "She is overjoyed with her brother, always looking after him and caring for him constantly. She's like a mother to him. I am so proud of her."
Juan Ramon's baptism took place on July 16th in the chapel of the Immaculate Conception in Madrid's Basilica of Jesus of Medinaceli. Among the guests at the ceremony were the paternal grandparents, HRH Princess Teresa of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, Duchess of Salerno, and Íñigo Moreno de Arteaga, Marquis of Laserna, the Duke and Duchess of Calabria, Alicia Moreno y de Borbón, Clara Moreno y de Borbón, Beatriz Moreno y de Borbón and her husband, Lucas Urquijo y Fernández de Araoz, Inigo Moreno y Calvo (son of Rodrigo's late brother, Alfonso,) and Enrique Ledesma y Moreno.
The infant's great-grandfather, Luis Jesús Fernández de Córdoba y Salabert, 17th Duke of Medinaceli, i buried in the chapel.
The infant's name honors the 1st Duke of Cardona (14446-1513), who was the uncle of King Ferdinand II, father of Catherine of Aragon.
Don Rodrigo is the grandson of Infante Alfonso of Spain, Prince of the Two Sicilies, Duke of Calabria, and Princess Alicia of Bourbon-Parma.

Alfonso was the son of Prince Carlos of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, Infante of Spain, and Infanta Maria de las Mercedes of Spain, sister of King Alfonso XIII.
He is a paternal first cousin of Princess Maria of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, the wife of Archduke Simeon of Austria, whose daughter, Isabel, married Don Carlos Palacio Gaytan de Ayala a week after the baptism.
Following the ceremony, the Duke and Duchess of Cardona hosted a luncheon at their Madrid home.
The Hola article includes photographs of the Duke and Duchess with their son.
