Count Franz-Josef zu Waldburg-Zeil-Lustenau-Hohenems (1927-2022)

 



H Ill H Count Franz Josef Vitus Xaver Georg Wunibald zu Waldburg-Zeil-Hohenems was the head of the Hohenems branch of the Waldburg-Zeil princely family.  He was born in Chur, Switzerland on March 3, 1927, as the eldest son and fourth child of H Ill H Count Georg Julius Kaspar Konrad of Waldburg-Zeil-Hohenems and his first wife, Archduchess Elisabeth Franziska Marie Karoline Ignatia of Austria (1892-1930), a granddaughter of Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria and Duchess Elisabeth in Bavaria.




[A year after Elisabeth's death, Count Georg married his late wife's younger sister, Archduchess Gertrud of Austria (1900-1962), and they had two children.]

Coutt Franz Josef married Countess Priscilla von Schönborn-Wiesentheid (1934-2019) in on June 21, 1956.

Franz Josef - Maria Valerie (who married Archduke Franz Salvator of Austria) - Elisabeth - Franz Josef.

His eldest son, Count Franz Clemens (1962) succeeds as head of the Hohenems branch.  As he and his wife, have four daughters, the eventual head of the house will be his younger brother, Count Stefan-Georg.   

However, Palast Hohenems will be inherited by Franz Clemen's eldest daughter, Tatjana, who has not taken her husband's surname.  Their children will also have her surname.
