A civil marriage for the Prince of Castell-Rüdenhausen

HSH Otto,  Prince of Castell-Rüdenhausen and Sophia Mautner von Markhof were married on December 29, 2018  in a civil ceremony.  The ceremony took place quietly as the new Princess of Rüdenhausen is mourning the death of her grandmother, Margherita.

The wedding took place at 11 a.m. at the Rathaus in Rüdenhausen.  The witnesses for the wedding were the Hereditary Prince of Leiningen, Prince Joachim of Prussia and Duke Christoph of Oldenburg,

The newlyweds celebrated with close family and friends with a private lunch at the castle.

The religious wedding will take place on June 15, 2019, in Vienna, where the bride's family lives.

Does it seem that there an increasing interlude between (non-reigning) noble/princely/royal civil and religious marriages (Catholic and Protestant)? Except in very unusual circumstances, it seemed that in the past, religious ceremonies followed the civil registration within a week or so, even when the ceremonies were conducted in different countries or duplicated for religious reasons (e.g. then Prince Juan Carlos and Princess Sofia, or the most recent wedding of the second son of the Grand Duke of Luxembourgh).

Some do -- I think they chose to have the civil marriage earlier than expected due to the tragic death of Sophia's grandmother.

The civil ceremony is the legal marriage.
