Death of the Duchess of Parma

The Associated Press is reporting the death of the Duchess of Parma, the mother of Prince Felix of Luxembourg.  The Duchess died yesterday at Schloss Berg at the age of 96.

HRH Infanta Maria Antónia Adelaide Camila Carolina Eulália Leopoldina Sofia Inês Francisca de Assis e de Paula Micaela Rafaela Gabriela Gonzaga Gregória Bernardina Benedita Andrea of Portugal was born on November 28, 1862 at Schloss Bronnbach, the seventh and youngest child of former King Miguel of Portugal and Princess Adelheid of Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg.


She was the second wife of former Duke Roberto I of Parma.  They were married on October 15, 1884.  The couple had twelve children.   Duke Roberto died in 1907.

The Duchess of Parma was a "royal refugee"during the second world war.  She visited the United States in 1940 and lived in Quebec, Canada for several years.

She is survived by nine of her twelve children: Prince Xavier, Princess Francesca, Zita, the former Empress of Austria,  Prince Felix, the husband of Grand Duchess Charlotte of Luxembourg, Prince Rene, Princess Isabella, Prince Louis, Princess Henriette and Prince Gaetano, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
