The Queen of Hannover was "taken suddenly ill Saturday night at Gmunden," according to the New York Times.  This necessitated "an operation, which was successfully performed to-day."

Queen Marie was born Princess Alexandrine Marie Wilhelmine Katharine Charlotte Theresia Henrietta Luise Pauline Elisabeth Friederike Georgine of Saxe-Altenberg on April 14, 1818.   She married Georg, Crown Prince of Hannover on February 18, 1843 at Hannover.   Georg, who was also HRH Prince George of Cumberland, a grandson of George III, and Queen Victoria's first cousin, succeeded to the throne of Hannover when his father, Ernst August died in 1851.

King Georg V reigned until 1866, when Prussia annexed Hannover.  The Hannover Royal Family went into exile at Gmunden in Austria.  King Georg V died in 1878.
