Prince Jean, Duke of Orleans (1874-1940) was married to his first cousin, Princess Isabelle of Orleans (1878-1961). They were the parents of three daughters, Isabelle, Francoise, Anne and Henri, Count of Paris. He married Princess Isabelle of Orleans-Braganza at Palermo on April 8, 1931.
Queen Amelie of Portugal (1865-1951) was the widow of the assassinated King Carlos of Portugal. She was also the elder sister of the Duchess of Guise.

Archduchess Maria Anna Isabelle Epiphanie Eugenie Gabriele of Austria, was the second child of Archduke Friedrich of Austria, Duke of Teschen, and Princess Isabelle of Croy.
She was born at Linz on January 6, 1882. Maria Antonia married Prince Elias of Bourbon-Parma, youngest son of Duke Roberto I of Parma and his first wife, Princess Maria Pia of Bourbon-Two Sicilies.
The marriage took place in Vienna on May 25, 1903. They had eight children: (Elisabetta (1904-1983), Carlo Luigi (1905-1912), Maria Francesca (1906-1994), Roberto (1909-1974), Francesco Alfonso (1913-1959), Giovanna Isabella (1916-1949), Princess Alicia (1917) and Princess Maria Cristina (1925-2009).
Princess Alicia was the only child to marry and have issue. In 1936, she married Prince Alfonso of Bourbon-Two Sicilies in 1936.
When Duke Roberto I died in 1907, he was succeed as the titular Duke of Parma by his eldest son, Prince Enrico, who was mentally disabled. Prince Elias became the guardian for Enrico and his five other mentally disabled siblings, including his other brother, Giuseppe, who succeeded as Duke in 1939. He died in 1950, and Elias, who had been acting as regent since the death of his father, finally succeeded as Duke of Parma.
Maria Anna never became the Duchess of Parma as she died on February 15, 1940.
Elias died on June 27, 1959 at the age of 78, and was succeeded by his son, Roberto II, who died in 1974. The Ducal title was inherited by his half-uncle, Prince Xavier,

Last night, in a radio broadcast, Queen Juliana announced that the 24-year-old Princess "would not become engaged as she had planned." The name of the young man, believed to be a Spaniard, was not named.
One Dutch newspaper, Het Parool, reported from Spain that "it is almost certain" that Princess Irene's suitor is a "wealthy, 30-year-old Spanish engineer," Santiago Ibarra de Churruca.
Princess Irene and Mr. Ibarra de Churrca have known each other for two years, but "his family "insists the two are just good friends."
Ibarra de Churruca comes from Bilbao, "where his family has important steel mill interests."

Prince Aage of Denmark has renounced all rights of succession to Danish throne "for himself and his descendant," reports the New York Times, which received the news by the Marconi Transatlantic Wireless Telegraph.
He also relinquished his title of Royal Highness.
King Christian has decided that the Prince and his wife will be titled as Prince and Princess Aage of Denmark, Count and Countess of Rosenborg, but their descendants will be only Count or Countess of Rosenborg.

Donna Elvira wins judicial separation

A special dispatch from Rome to London states a "judicial separation has been granted to Donna Elvira, daughter of Don Carlos," according to the New York Times.
Donna Elvira's estranged husband, Count Filippo Folchi, has been ordered to pay her 300 francs per month as alimony.
Donna Elvira is Don Carlos' second daughter. She caused a "sensation in European in November 1896, when she eloped from Rome with Count Folchi, "an artist, described as a married man with a family." She used a visitor to her sister, Princess Massimo, to run off with Folchi.

The name of the putative fiancé, believed to be Spanish, was not named.
The Queen said that it "had been impossible to make an earlier announcement to the Dutch people," because there still had been the "happy possibility of an engagement."
Queen Juliana returned from the Olympic Winter Games at Innsbruck, Austria, two weeks earlier than expected.
She spoke for about two minutes. She said her daughter was "having a difficult time," and hoped the Dutch people would "not trouble her."
Princess Irene has been in Spain for four weeks. Last week, she announced she had become a Roman Catholic, leading to speculation that she was planning to marry a Spaniard.
A spokesman for the Dutch government announced that the Princess was en route home. But when the plane landed Princess Irene was not aboard, and it appeared she had changed her mind at the last minute."

Archduke's daughter fights for fortune

For most of her life, Clotilde de Simics has lived in poverty, reports the New York Times. She has endeavored for many years to be recognized as the daughter of Archduke Ernst of Austria by "the Vienna courts and to receive at least part of the property left her by her father."
The marriage between Archduke Ernst and Baroness Walburg took place secretly, but the marriage registers and Archduke Ernst's letters "prove beyond doubt" that the marriage took place, and Clotilde is his daughter.
She is claiming $150,000 as "her portion of the inheritance," but the court declared that "no property worth mentioning was left by the Archduke. However, Count von Strachtwitz, a close friend of the late archduke, declared in court today that Clotilde was indeed the legitimate daughter of Archduke Ernst, who died leaving a fortune "of many million Kronen."
This statement shows that the statement released by the Court Marshall that the "Archduke died practically penniless was absolutely incorrect."
It remains uncertain whether Clotilde will ever receive her inheritance, as the "Imperial Court adopts the view" that Archduke Ernst's marriage took place without the Emperor's consent and is invalid according to "the laws of the Imperial House."

Reuters is reporting the death of Prince Alfonso of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, Duke of Calabria, a nephew of the late King Alfonso XIII of Spain.
He underwent an operation last week in a Madrid hospital. Prince Alfonso was 62 years old.
He was the eldest child of the late Infanta Mercedes of Spain, eldest sister of Alfonso XIII. She was styled as Princess of Asturias from her birth until her death following childbirth. Her father, King Alfonso XII, died in 1885, when she was a small child. Her mother, Queen Maria Cristina, was pregnant with her third child, at the time of her husband's death. She gave birth to King Alfonso in May 1886.
On Valentine's Day in 1901, Mercedes married Prince Carlos of Bourbon-Two Sicilies. He was created an Infant of Spain, as were their three children. Mercedes died in 1904, shortly after giving birth to their daughter, Infanta Isabel Alfonsa.
Although he was not styled as Prince of Asturias, Prince Alfonso was the heir presumptive to the Spanish throne until King Alfonso's wife, Queen Victoria Eugenie, gave birth to their first child, Alfonso, in 1907.

Prince Viggo of Denmark experienced another dose of "American hospitality" earlier today a luncheon at 9 Lexington Avenue, hosted by Misses Sarah and Eleanor Hewitt. This was followed by a "reception with music" held at the apartment of Mrs. Henry Redmond, at 640 Park Avenue.
This evening, Prince Viggo, was the "most important guest at a dinner of forty" given by his "kinsfolk" Prince and Princess Christian of Hesse.
The dinner was held at the Plaza hotel. Miss Eleanor Green was among the guests at all three events.
Other guests at the luncheon and dinner included Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Vanderbilt, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dana Gibson, the Duke and Duchess of Richelieu, Cora, Countess of Strafford, among others.

The press staking out the arrivals of guests at the wedding of Andrea Casiraghi and Tatiana Casiraghi snapped photos of Margherita Missoni, Princess Elisabeth of Thurn und Taxis and other member of Andrea and Tatiana's friends. One couple stood out: Prince Christian of Hanover and Alessandra de Osma, who were first noticed together in June 2011 at the wedding of Mathilde de Borromeo and Prince Antonius zu Furstenberg's wedding. (Mathilde's half-sister, Beatrice, is the girlfriend of Andrea's brother, Pierre Casiraghi.)
Christian is Andrea Casiraghi's stepbrother as Andrea's mother, Princess Caroline, is married to Christian's father, Prince Ernst August of Hanover, head of the royal house of Hanover.
[For transparency purposes, the Hanovers fascinate me on several levels as they are (very important to me) descendants of Queen Victoria and my paternal family comes from Hanover.]
Although Princess Caroline and Prince Ernst August have been estranged for several years, Christian remains good friends with Andrea and his wife.
Andrea and Christian share a half sister, Princess Alexandra of Hanover, who is the only child of Caroline and Ernst August's marriage.
Alessandra comes from a wealthy and well-connected Peruvian family. She has a BA in law from the University of Lima and has worked as a model since about 2007. She was represented by the Ford Agency, and has modeled for Chanel, Missoni and Bottega. She also recently appeared in a Pepsi commercial for Latin American television.
Friends and family call her Sassa.
Christian first met Alessandra in 2005, when he traveled to Peru for a holiday, and Alessandra, then only 14, was recommended as a tour guide.
She is the daughter of Felipe de Osma Berkemeyer and Elizabeth Foy Vasquez. De Osma owns Hermes, a Lima-based security firm.
They recently moved from New York City to Madrid where Prince Christian is studying at the Instituto Empresa (IE), an internationally renown business school. He graduated from New York University in 2006, and now manages family investments in Dubai.
Christian's older brother, Prince Ernst August, has taken over the family businesses in Germany.

Andrea and Tatiana tie the knot ... in a religious ceremony
Andrea Casiragi and his wife, the former Tatiana Santo Domingo, were married this evening at St. Josef's Roman Catholic church in Gstaad, Switzerland. No photos have been released from the wedding, and the bride and groom went to great lengths to prevent photographers from even getting snaps of the arrivals at the small church. The bride and groom and their families arrived in cars with blacked out windows, and large umbrellas were used to provide further cover when they emerged from their cars and walked into the church.
Mrs. Casiraghi wore a bespoke white gown with a hooded cap designed by Valentino, who was also one of the guests. She also wore a tiara.
Other guests included members of the bride and groom's families: Tatiana's brother, Julio Santo Domingo (who may have given her away) and her mother, Vera, Princess Caroline (mother of the groom) and her three other children, Charlotte (a new mother herself), Pierre with his girlfriend, Beatrice Borromeo, and Princess Alexandra of Hanover.
The groom's uncle, Prince Albert of Monaco, attended the wedding without his wife, Princess Charlene. Princess Stephanie, who is Andrea's godmother, was also conspicuous by her absence.
Margherita Missoni and Princess Elisabeth of Thurn und Taxis were among the 300 guests at the candlelit ceremony.
At least one guest with a cell phone captured a few photos during the wedding.

Mrs. Casiraghi wore a bespoke white gown with a hooded cap designed by Valentino, who was also one of the guests. She also wore a tiara.
Other guests included members of the bride and groom's families: Tatiana's brother, Julio Santo Domingo (who may have given her away) and her mother, Vera, Princess Caroline (mother of the groom) and her three other children, Charlotte (a new mother herself), Pierre with his girlfriend, Beatrice Borromeo, and Princess Alexandra of Hanover.
The groom's uncle, Prince Albert of Monaco, attended the wedding without his wife, Princess Charlene. Princess Stephanie, who is Andrea's godmother, was also conspicuous by her absence.
Margherita Missoni and Princess Elisabeth of Thurn und Taxis were among the 300 guests at the candlelit ceremony.
