Carol I to abdicate
January 7, 1891
There are reports from Bucharest that King Carol I of Romania has decided to abdicate "within a short time" in favor of his nephew, Crown Prince Ferdinand, reports the New York Times.
Crown Prince Ferdinand is the second son of Carol's older brother, the Prince of Hohenzollern. It is "rumored" that Prince Ferdinand is engaged to Princess Marie of Edinburgh, eldest daughter of the Duke of Edinburgh, Queen Victoria's second son.
