In Spain, cards are being sold with the words "No me bese!," which translates to Do not kiss me. The New York Times reports the cards are the result of an order from Queen Victoria Eugenia, "forbidding that her children be kissed on hygienic grounds, by anybody." She has begun a campaign "against promiscuous embracing of infants and children."
The King and Queen and their three children are currently at their palace in Seville. A recent incident "speaks well for the intelligence of the Infanta Beatriz, nearly two years old." A few mornings ago, the Infanta was "taking her morning stroll" through the palace grounds when she "was suddenly accosted by the wife of one of the gardeners." The woman, overcome with emotion at seeing the infanta, "was about to bestow a genuine Andalusian caress" on Beatriz's face, when she was informed of Queen Victoria Eugenia's order.
The woman was said to be "greatly embarrassed." Young Beatriz, apparently understood the woman's feelings, and "extended her hand to receive the caress."
