Although not necessary for marriage, Catherine Middleton was confirmed in the Church of England in a private ceremony on March 10 at St. James's Palace. The ceremony was conducted by the Bishop of London, the Rt. Rev Richard Chartres, who will give the address at Miss Middleton and Prince William' s wedding.
Miss Middleton was baptised as an infant, according to the rites of the Church of England, but was never confirmed, a ceremony "which marks the point where baptised Christians make a firm commitment to their faith."
Catherine's family and Prince William attended the ceremony.
Prince William was also confirmed by the Bishop of London in a ceremony at St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, in March 1997 when he was 14 years old.
