News organizations are reporting that Viscount Trematon, the 22-year-old nephew of Queen Mary, is unconscious in a Bellville-sur-Saone hospital, after sustaining serious injuries in an automobile accident, near Lyons, yesterday evening. His friend, Kenrick Madocks, was "instantly killed." John Conran, who was also in the car, was not seriously injured. Doctors said Lord Trematon "was seriously injured, but that he would probably recover."

Lord Trematon is the son and heir of the Earl of Athlone, Queen Mary's younger brother, who is married to Princess Alice of Albany, a granddaughter of Queen Victoria, and first cousin of George V.

The accident occurred when Lord Trematon's car was "ditched when passing another machine on a narrow road." Reuter's account, published in The Times states that the car, "which was traveling at a high speed, skidded while attempting to pass another vehicle," crashed into a tree, and overturned.

Lord Trematon is an undergraduate at Trinity College, Cambridge, as was Madocks. Tonight the British Embassy in Paris announced that Lord Trematon's condition was "satisfactory, and "that he had been given permission this morning to take some nourishment and to smoke a cigarette."
