HRH Princess Alessandra of Hanover gave birth to twins, Nikolaus and Sophie, who were born in a Madrid hospital on July 7, 2020. These are the first children for Alessandra (nee de Osma) and her husband, HRH Prince Christian of Hanover, the younger son of Prince Ernst August of Hanover and his first wife, Chantal Hochuli.
The family lives in Madrid so it is not surprising that the Spanish media are using Spanish names, Nicolas and Sofia. However, is not confirmed that the twins have been given Spanish first names. Until this is confirmed by the family, I will use the German names as HRH Prince Nikolaus and HRH Princess Sophie of Hanover.
Sophie/Sofia could be in honor of Queen Sofia of Spain, whose mother, Friederike, was born a Princess of Hanover. Queen Sofia and Prince Christian's father are first cousins. [King Felipe VI is one of the godparents of Christian's older brother, Ernst August.]
Christian's older brother, Hereditary Prince Ernst August and his wife, Ekaterina, have two children, Elisabeth and Welf August.
Prince Christian and Alessandra de Osma were married in Lima on March 16, 2018.
