Mrs Simpson goes out

November 7, 1936

The newly divorced Mrs. Simpson made her first public appearance since her divorce. Wearing a "tunic suit of black satin with green and gold brocade," Mrs. Simpson was seen at the Royal Opera, sitting in the box next to the royal box. Lord and Lady Cromer were in the royal box.
Mrs. Simpson was joined by Lady Diana Cooper, Lady Honor Channon and her American husband, Henry (better known as Chips) Channon, and Sir Victor Warrender, former Comptroller of the late King George V's household.
Mrs. Simpson was recently a guest at the Channons' Belgrave Square home, which is only a few doors away from the London residence of the Duke and Duchess of Kent.
In six months, Mrs. Simpson's divorce will be final, and she will be free to remarry, "if she chooses."
