The Duke of Leuchtenberg, described as a nephew of Nicholas II (sic), has married a Ulla Mueller, 22, a servant girl in Munich. The marriage took place only two weeks after they had met. The Duke's family decided to boycott the wedding, after learning about the bride. The Duke is a musical conductor for several of Germany's orchestras. His first wife, a Russian princess, died in Constantinople during the war.

Marlene I'm pretty sure I've read on one of the boards that you're area of interest isn't really royal jewels, but I guess you would know how there is a connection between the Dukes of Leuchtenberg, and the beautiful sapphire and diamond jewel set worn today by Queen Silvia of Sweden. They call it the Leuchtenberg parure. I love the way it looks, and in old photos of Queen Louise she looks unbelievably regal. I've never seen The King's sisters, or CP Victoria or Princess Madeline wear this set, so I would guess it's reserved for the King's consort. Which is good, I think some special pieces should be set aside just for The Queen. Such as her massive Braganza tiara. I love royal jewels!
Augusta of Leuchtenberg received the parure as a wedding gift from Napoleon. She married his stepson, Eugenie Beauharnais. Augusta and Eugene had a daughter, Josephine, who married King Oscar I of Sweden. Josephine inherited the parure from her mother. Josephine left the jewels to her granddson, Gustav V - who then left the jewels to the family foundation, for the use by the consort. Gustav's wife, Victoria, wore the jewels as did Sibylla, Louise and Silvia.
John the Kin's sister Princess Birgitta wore this parure at the Gala performance at the evening before the King's Wedding in 1976.
