Day 6 and the Big Decision

May 3 - Day six   This would be the day Pam and I would make our Coronation decision.  This would not happen until later in the day after we met up on the Mall.

I headed to St. James's Street to get a coffee and a muffin at Costa because getting on the Overground and making my way to Kensington Palace, where a friend works.   There was a huge line for the new exhibit Crown to Couture, which closes on October 29, 2023.  It is the largest exhibit that Kensington Palace has ever mounted.

I arrived at Kensington Palace shortly after 10:30 and went to the visitor's desk to give my friend's name.  She came down to get me -- and whisked me into the palace.  A quick chat before she had to head off to her station.  We would meet up again in Victoria's rooms

nearly the entire space that is available for exhibitions was used for Crown to Couture, including the Cupola Room where Queen Victoria was baptized

The Princess Feodora portrait is on loan to Buckingham Palace so this miniature is on display until the portrait is returned.   

I never  get bored visiting the Victoria rooms, although the exhibit is now a lot smaller

So many choices but decided on the Victoria sponge cake,  a pot of tea, and Victoria Lemonade

Headed to the Mall where Pam was waiting for me as she met several women who 

invited us to join them.  Okay ... I think we are doing this --two nights on the Mall ... It will be fun.  Pam had invited me to join her and her two friends for dinner at Hobson's Fish & Chips on Porchester Road. We started the journey by subway, but there were serious delays on the Circle Line so we got a cab to the restaurant, where we made further plans for camping out

I had been battling an upper respiratory and saw my doctor before I left.  She prescribed (Zithromax Z-Pak, Montelukast, and a nasal spray.  I still had a stuffed nose before I left so my doctor wrote another Z-pak prescription, telling me to use it only if I needed it.

Wednesday night  I needed it.   I was not feeling well and realized I had a slight fever when I got back to Walthamstow.  I took the first two pills (a five-day regimen) and went to sleep.  

Z-Pak went to battle.

It's a boy for Viscount and Viscountess Lascelles.

Lady Lascelles  --former Annika Elizabeth Reed - gave birth to the Hon. Kit Moon William Lascelles on June 4, 2023, at Bath.  The couple, who married at Kew Gardens on August 18, 2018, are the parents of a daughter, the Hon. Ivy Lascelles, who was born in October 2018.

Alexander Edgar Lascelles, Viscount Lascelles, is the third child and second son of  David Henry George Lascelles, 8th Earl of Harewood, and his first wife, Margaret Messenger.

Known as Orly,  Alexander is a private chef.  He is the heir apparent to his father's earldom as his older brother Benjamin was born before their parents' marriage.

Lord Lascelles is also the father of a 15-year-old son Leo.  He and Leo's mother, Laleh Yeganegy, did not marry.

The Hon. Kit Lascelles is second in line to the Harewood earldom.  He and Prince George of Wales are fourth cousins.

Another QVD! A second son for Eugenie & Jack

 HRH Princess Eugenie & Jack Brooksbank are the parents of a second son,  Ernest George Ronnie, who was born on May 30, 2023, at the Portland Hospital in London.

The couple's first son, August, was born on February 21, 2021, also at the Portland Hospital in London.

Ernest was named after his great-great-great grandfather and his paternal and maternal grandfathers.

He is 13th in line to the throne.

King Charles in Romania

 King Charles III arrived in Romania earlier today.  Before heading off to his property in Zalánpatak, which is in Transylvania, he received a military welcome at Cotroceni Palace, the official residence of the Romanian President, Klaus Iohannis. 

He also met with President Iohannis at Cotroceni in May 2022.

 The king will be staying in Transylvania.  He will also spend a few hours in Viscri, where he will visit the famous Blue House, which is a center for craft activities and exhibitions.  The Prince of Wales Foundation has its office in the Blue House.

Cotroceni Palace was one of the residences of King Ferdinand and Queen Marie.  One part of the palace is open to tourists.

70 Years ago today: the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II

My parents were on their honeymoon.  My mom watched the Coronation.  The BBC sent copies of the Coronation on film, which were brought to the US & Canada, and other countries.  It would be another decade before television used satellites.   The Coronation was not live in the majority of countries that had television service.
