Princess Elisabetta of Belgium gave birth to her second child, a son, who was born Friday evening (September 6) at 9:05 p.m., at the UMC Sint-Pieter Hospital in Brussels.

The princess is the wife of Prince Amedeo of Belgium, the eldest child of Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz of Belgium.

Prince Amadeo married Italian-born Elisabetta Rosboch von Wolkenstein on July 5, 2014.  Their first child, a daughter, Archduchess Anna Astrid, was born on May 17, 2016 at UMC-Sint-Pieter Hospital.

The name of the new baby, the second grandchild for Princess Astrid, has not been announced, but due to a 2015 decree from King Philippe, Amedeo's children will not have Belgian titles. The decree limits the HRH and title of Prince or Princess of Belgium to the children of the sovereign and the children of the heir or heiress apparent.

Amedeo's father was born Archduke Lorentz of Austria.  On November 19, 1995, King Albert II issued a decree that extended the HRH and title of Prince or Princess of Belgium to Princess Astrid's children.  The new gender equal succession law  (1991), which superseded the Salic law (males only) allowed for Princess  Astrid and her children to be inserted in the line of succession after her elder brother, Philippe, and before her younger brother, Prince Laurent.  As Philippe was not married in 1995,  it seemed possible that he would not marry and the succession would eventually devolve on Princess Astrid.

King Philippe married Mathilde d'Udekem d'Acoz in December 1999.  They have four children.

The new archduke is eight in the line of succession to Belgian throne.  He is the second great-grandchild of King Albert and Queen Paola.
