Prince Wilhelm of Sweden spent his last day in New York City today, and it was a busy day. He visited the New York Fire Headquarters, a modern and "model tenement", and the United States Immigration station on Ellis Island. He did not return to the Hotel Astor until late this afternoon. Everywhere, the prince found "something to interest him."
This evening the Prince was at the Arion Club, "where a dinner was tendered to him by former students of German universities," the New York Times reported. The dinner was German in every aspect, apart from decorations, where "American and Swedish colors predominated."
At the right of the Prince's table was a large photograph of his grandfather, the Grand Duke of Baden, who is an honorary member of the society for former German students in America.
There were no long speeches, although toasts were made to President Roosevelt, the German Kaiser, the Grand Duke of Baden, the King of Sweden, and, of course, to Prince Wilhelm himself. The dinner was over by 11 p.m., in order for the Prince to return to his hotel and then catch the train to Boston.
