Ena won't come to son's wedding

Former Queen Victoria Eugenia of Spain will not be attending the civil and religious weddings of her son, Alfonso, according to an Associated Press dispatch.

Alfonso, the former Prince of Asturias, renounced his rights "as heir to the Spanish throne, will marry a Cuban-born commoner Edelmira Sanpedro in civil and religious ceremonies later this week.  The church wedding will take place in Ouchy, Switzerland.

Both ceremonies "will be public," and members of Spain's "high society" are expected to attend the Roman Catholic service, but Alfonso's parents and siblings will not be present for either ceremony.

Queen Ena has sent her son a letter "detailing complications and expressing disapproval of his marriage to a commoner.
Alfonso, who is now known as the Count of Covadonga, and his bride will sepend several weeks at Evian-les-Bains on Lake Geneva.
