The arrest of the Duchess d'Ursel

April 6, 1915

This report is based on a dispatch from Rotterdam to the London Daily News, and reported in the New York Times.

The Duchess d'Ursel was arrested this morning in Brussels "on a charge of furnishing money to Belgians wishing to escape to join the Belgian Army."

The Duke and Duchess d'Ursel are "well-known figures" in Parisian and Belgian society.  They have a home in Paris in the Chausée de la Muette.

The Duchess is the former Sabine de Franqueville, one of five daughters of the Count Franquet de Franqueville by his first wife.  The Count is an officer of the Legion of Honor and a member of the French Academy.  His second wife was Lady Sophia Palmer, daughter of the Earl of Selborne.

Robert, Duke d'Ursel and Sabine de Franqueville were married in Paris on April 12, 1898.  They have one son, Charles, 14, and two daughters, Hedwige, 13, and Marie, who will celebrate her tenth birthday on May 1.   The Duchess is 37-years-old
