A wedding in Hohenems

the bride and groom

Countess Tatjana of Waldburg-Zeil-Hohenems and Philipp Eisl were married on October 2 at St.Karl Borromäus Church in Hohenems, Austria, which is not too far from Palast Hohenems, the family home.

Hohenems is in Voralberg, Austria, close to the Swiss border and about 30 minutes by car to Vaduz, the capital of Liechtenstein.

The bride is the eldest daughter of Count-Franz-Clemens of Waldburg-Zeil-Hohenems and his wife, the former Countess Stephanie of Blanckenstein.  She has three younger sisters.  Mr. Eisl is the son of Heinz Eisl and Christina Jékey-Isaák de Buly et Jéke.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima, who are close friends of the bride's parents, attended the reception which was held at Palast Hohenems.

In an interview in 2020, Tatjana, who is in charge of organizing weddings at Palast Hohenems, said:
"My dream is to get married with family and friends at home, in the Hohenems Palace, and to celebrate lively."  She is being trained to take over the family business.

Shortly before the wedding,  Count Franz-Clemens announced that his daughter would not be taking her husband's surname and would remain Tatjana Gräfin von Waldburg-Zeil-Hohenems.  As she did not marry a nobleman she loses the predicate Her Illustrious Highness and will be known as Frau Tatjana Waldburg-Zeil-Hohenems.  Her husband will keep his name.

Tatjana and Philipp also decided that their children will have her surname.

This has caused some consternation within the family as neither Tatjana nor her children will have noble status, merely the surname Graf or Gräfin von Waldburg-Zeil-Hohenems.

Tatjana is one of four daughters, which means the title -- her father is the heir apparent  --  will eventually pass her uncle Stefan.   The inheritance situation is similar to the main Waldburg-Zeil line.    Erich, Prince von Waldburg zu Zeil und Trauchberg  has made Count Maximilian von Waldburg zu Zeil und Trauchberg the heir to the family properties and assets.

Erich and his wife, Duchess Mathilde of Württemberg are the parents of five daughters who do not have succession rights.

Maximilian is the only son of Erich's first cousin, Count Clemens, who is the heir presumptive to the Waldburg-Zeil-Trauchberg titles.   Clemens (1960) is two years older than his first cousin.  He is married to Princess Georgina of Liechtenstein, who is one of Mathilde's first cousins.

Georgina's mother, Duchess Marie Christine of Württemberg and Mathilde's father, Carl, Duke of Württemberg are siblings.

Tatjana is a descendant of Austria Emperor Franz Josef and his consort, Duchess Elisabeth in Bavaria.
