Ted drove me to the airport for the nearly 90 minute flight to Kalmar, which is the access point to the island of Öland, Sweden's paradise. The royal family have a summer home at Solliden.
A friend of mine, Tori Martinez and her husband, David, and their two adorable kids, met me at the airport in Kalmar. We walked around the city center, had lunch at a lovely restaurant, Mr & Mrs. We also indulged in ice cream cones afterward.
Tori and her family were driving back to their home in southern Sweden, so they dropped me off at the bus station, where I caught the bus to Borgholm. I was checked in for two nights at the Drottning Victoria hotel, which was once the vacation home of Queen Victoria (nee Baden), the consort of Gustav V and mother of King Gustav VI Adolf.
The island is connected to the mainland by a 3.7 mile bridge. It was about an hour ride to Borgholm, and I got let off near the hotel's entrance.
