There are "empathic denials" from London and Amsterdam tonight "following revival of the old rumor" that Princess Juliana of the Netherlands was about to announce her engaged to the Duke of Gloucester.
The New York Times reports "in no case have rumors of an English alliance for Princess Juliana been treated seriously" at the Dutch court or by the British royal family.
Princess Juliana, the only daughter of Queen Wilhelmina, was first linked with the Duke last summer, when she paid an informal visit to England. At that time it was "explained frankly that no effort had been made" to introduce the heiress to the Dutch throne to "eligible royal or aristocratic bachelors here."
