After more than ten years together, HH Princess Mafalda of Hesse and artist Rolf Sachs were married on December 23, 2025. This is the fourth marriage for the Princess, elder daughter of the late HRH Moritz, Landgrave of Hesse, and HSH Princess Tatiana of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, and the second marriage for Sachs.
Rolf Sachs, 70, is the son of the late playboy and industrialist Gunter Sachs, a scion of the von Opel family. Gunter's paternal grandmother, Elinor von Opel, was a granddaughter of Adam Opel, founder of the eponymous car company, Opel.
The 60 -year-old Princess Mafalda is an artist and scene designer.
The wedding ceremony took place at Sachs' estate, Rechenau, which has been owned by his family for many years. The property is "idyllically situated on a hill above Oberaudorf, Bavaria," which is near the Austrian border.
