Sam Chatto's ceramic exhibition in Norway

Ram Gallery

If you are in Oslo, stop at the Ram Gallery to see an exhibition of Sam Chatto's ceramic works.

The British-born Chatto is the son of Daniel and Lady Sarah Chatto and the grandson of the late Princess Margaret.  According to the gallery, Chatto " offers a vindication of ceramic master traditions from Europe and Asia, having trained in Kyoto. A studio residency at Senter for keramisk kunst in Ringebu in 2024 resulted in a series of sculptural works that will be exhibited for the first time at RAM."

8. May – 7. June 2025

RAM is proud to present the first Scandinavian solo exhibition of British ceramic artist Sam Chatto (b. 1996, UK).

"Chatto always engages with his surroundings in his work and maintains a close connection to nature. During the autumn of 2024, he had a studio residency at Senter for keramisk kunst in Ringebu, where he explored different local stoneware clays and developed an unconventional method of combining rough stoneware with pure porcelain clay. The dramatic natural surroundings of Ringebu, which have attracted artists for generations, added essential impulses to the process, embedding the arch-Norwegian forest landscape into the sculptures. The resulting works of this Norwegian residency will make up the core of the exhibition at RAM."

Sam's third cousin, Flora Vesterberg, visited the exhibition shortly after it opened.  She wrote on Instagram, "An inspiring week in Oslo celebrating my brilliant cousin, Sam Chatto’s exhibition ‘Tracked Earth’ (ramgalleri_, which continues until 7 June. He combined celadon porcelain with Norwegian river clay to create these exquisite ceramics."
