It was in the spring of 2019 when the Twitterverse went into overdrive because a journalist (from The Times no less) tweeted that the Duke of Cambridge and the Marchioness of Cholmondeley (the former Rose Hanbury) had an affair that led to the Duchess of Cambridge dropping the Marchioness from her social circle.
It is true that the Marquess, who is the the Lord Great Chamberlain, and his wife were not present at the Duchess of Cambridge's annual birthday weekend in January 2019-- which includes the Cambridges' guests joining the Queen for Sunday Service at Sandringham. This was later seen as a sign that, yup, Catherine had kicked them out of their social circle.
A number of Sussex stans ran with the story and continued to perpetuate the rumors, which were, after all, just rumors based on a tweet that got deleted. Moreover, the original tweeter allegedly stated that the information was incorrect, yet the story would not die.
No one ever provided a shred of evidence of an affair between the Duke of Cambridge and the granddaughter of one of Queen Elizabeth's bridesmaids, Lady Elizabeth Lambart.
The Duchess of Cambridge's birthday weekend was this past weekend. Well, well, well, well, well ... look who was at the party. James and Lady Laura Meade, Tom van Straubenzee and his fiancee, Lucy Lanigan O-Keefe,who teaches at Thomas' in Battersea, David and Emila Jardine-Paterson, Michael and Carole Middleton and the Marquess and Marchioness of Cholmondeley.
There are a number Sussex stans stating that this was a photo op. I call that bull merde. Too many factors. If the story were true, Lord and Lady C would not have been invited to Catherine's birthday party. It is her party. For another, if William had cheated on Catherine with Rose, it is highly doubtful that Rose would have been invited to join the family for a weekend party that included the Duchess' parents!
