HRH Duke Friedrich of Württemberg was killed in a car accident today on a road between Ebenwiler and Fronhofen, Germany.  He was 56 years old.

The original police report did not identify the dead man.  However, the House of Württemberg announced in a press release earlier this evening that the victim was Duke Friedrich, the eldest son of TRH Duke Carl and Duchess Diane of Württemberg.

Duke Friedrich was head of the administration of the family's estate.

Duke Friedrich was driving when he collided head-on while trying to overtake a trailer in front of him.  He was heading toward Fronhofen at about 3:30 p.m. when the accident occurred.  He collided with a car coming in the opposite direction.

He sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.  The 30-year-old driver of the other car and his two passengers all suffered minor injuries.

All four victims were taken to the local hospital.

Oh my! Didn't Princess Marie's brother just pass away a couple of years ago? My heart goes out to the family.

No. Marie's brother, Wilhelm, is alive and well. The Prince of Wied, who did in 2015, was her second cousin.
