Theodore Mountbatten is the son of Henry David Louis Mountbatten, the Earl of Medina, and his former girlfriend, Bella Buchanan.   According to the Mail on Sunday, which broke the story,  Theodore was born on May 1, 2024.   He was initially registered with the surname Buchanan.  The Mail on Sunday reports that Bella was "opposed to her son using the Mountbatten surname."

It is understood that Theodore's paternal grandfather, George, 4th Marquess of Milford Haven, "intervened personally," telling his son that Theodore must have the surname Mountbatten.   Lord Medina agreed.  He and Bella were together for two and a half years.

Theodore's birth certificate was reissued in October 2024 with the new surname: Mountbatten.

The relationship between Lord Medina, 33, and Miss Buchanan ended "while she was pregnant."   Theodore was born out of wedlock, which means he cannot inherit the Marquessate of Milford Haven or use the courtesy title Viscount Alderney.

In November 2021, the Mail revealed that "things are getting serious" between Lord Medina and Bella Buchanan.  The couple were spotted at Glorious Goodwood, where Lord Medina's sister, Lady Tatiana, rode in the Magnolia Cup.  Bella was also a guest at Harry's 30th birthday party at his family's home in Scotland, and she accompanied Harry to his sister's wedding in July 2022.

Lord Medina is the Chairman of Cazip Enerji Holdings.  He is the heir apparent to his father's Marquessate of Milford Haven.  The title will become extinct with Harry's death if he does not have a legitimate son.

Bella, 36, is the daughter of James Edward Denniston Buchanan and Suzy Zuleika Bryer Parsons, daughter of the late TV host Nicholas Parsons.  Her full name is Annabel Elizabeth Bryer. Buchanan.  She was born in London on January 6, 1989.

Lord Medina is the younger child of George, 4th Marquess of Milford Haven, and his first wife, Sarah Walker.

Theodore is a descendant of Queen Victoria.
