HSH Princess Marie Caroline of Liechtenstein and Leopoldo Maduro Vollmer were united in marriage today in St Florin Cathedral in Vaduz, Liechtenstein.

The Princess, 28, is the second child and only daughter of Hereditary Prince Alois and Hereditary Princess Sophie of Liechtenstein.  As Salic law - males only - is the basis for Liechtenstein's succession, Marie Caroline has no rights to the throne.  Her 34-year-old husband, known as Leo, is an investment banker in London.  He is the son of Francisco and Sofia Maduro Vollmer.

This was the first marriage of a daughter of a Sovereign Prince since 1999, when Princess Tatjana, daughter of Hans-Adam II, married Philipp von Lattorf.  Eleven years earlier,  Tatjana's aunt, Princess Nora, the only daughter of the late Prince Franz Josef II, married  Vicente Sartorius y Cabeza de Vaca, 4th Marquess of Mariño, as his second wife.

Marie Caroline's wedding was a private event.  The princely family's press office released minimal details about the ceremony, reception, or who designed the bride's gown.   This was not a state occasion, although Liechtenstein government officials were invited to the ceremony.  The majority of guests were family and friends.

HH Princess Dorothea of Windisch-Graetz (1934-2025)

@Eric de Waele

HH Princess Dorothea of Windisch-Graetz has died at the age of 91.  She was the second child of HH Prince Christoph of Hesse and HRH Princess Sophie of Greece.  The Princess was a niece of HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and a paternal first cousin of King Charles III.  She died on August 25th in Ghent, Belgium.

The death note states she was HRH. This is incorrect. She was HH, her highness.

Princess Dorothea Charlotte Karin of Hesse was born on July 24, 1934, in  Schloss Panker, in Schleswig-Holstein, one of the castles owned by Prince Christoph's father, HRH Friedrich Karl, Landgrave of Hesse.

Prince Karl, Princess Dorothea, and Princess Christina of Hesse

During the Second World War, the princess lived with her parents and grandmother, Margarete, Landgravine of Hesse (nee Princess of Prussia), at Schloss Kronberg. Prince Christoph served with the Luftwaffe Reserve and was killed on active duty in a plane crash in Italy on October 7, 1943.   Dorothea's mother, Sophie, was pregnant with her fifth child when her husband was killed.

In April 1945, the United States Army forced the family to evacuate Schloss Kronberg, which was converted into an officers' club.  Sophie and her family were invited to Schloss Wolfsgarten in Langen, the home of Prince Ludwig of Hesse and by Rhine nd his British wife, the Hon. Margaret Geddes.  Ludwig was the younger brother of Hereditary Grand Duke Georg Donatus, who was the husband of Sophie's sister, Princess Cecilie.  In November 1937, they were killed in a plane crash en route to London to attend Ludwig's wedding.

Princess Dorothea's mother, Princess Sophie, married Prince Georg Wilhelm of Hanover in 1946.

In July 1949,  Princess Dorotha and her older sister, Princess Christina, spent time with their grandmother, Princess Andrew of Greece and Denmark, in England.

The two sisters joined other family members at Queen Elizabeth II's Coronation in 1953.   The following year, the Court Circular reported that Dorothea, along with Prince and Princess Ludwig of Hesse and By Rhine, visited the Earl and Countess Mountbatten of Burma in Malta.

In 1955, the Princess visited Prince and Princess Ludwig of Hesse and by Rhine, accompanied by her uncle, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

In the mid-1950s, Dorothea, along with her older sister, Princess Christina of Hesse, and their first cousin, Princess Beatrix of Hohenlohe-Langenburg, resided in London, spending time at Buckingham Palace.  Before her engagement announcement on August 27, 1958, to Prince Friedrich of Windisch-Graetz, Dorothea worked in a London antique shop.

The prince was 17 years Dorothea's senior.

More than seventy guests attended Princess Dorothea's marriage to HSH Friedrich Karl Hugo Maximilian Maria Cyrillus Felix Hubertus of Windisch-Graetz on April 1, 1959, at St. Georg's Roman Catholic Church in Bogenhausen, a suburb of Munich.  The civil ceremony took place the previous day in Schliersee, Bavaria.

The princess, who was baptized Lutheran, converted to Roman Catholicism before her marriage.

Following their marriage, the newlyweds settled in Milan, Italy, where Prince Friedrich Karl worked in the business sector.  They had two daughters,  Princess Marina Margherita Sophia Leontina Christiana (1960) and Princess Elisabetta Fiore (1966).   In their later years, Prince and Princess Friedrich Karl moved to Gersau, Switzerland, where the Prince died on May 29. 2002.

After the death of her husband, Princess Dorothea remained in Gersau and was joined by her older sister, who died in 2011.  At the end of her life, she relocated to Belgium, where her younger daughter resides.

Prince Philipp of Prussia marries Aline von Alvensleben

Prince Philipp of Prussia and Aline von Alvensleben were married on August 9, 2025, in Tréguier, Brittany.  The groom, 39, is the youngest of three sons of Prince Adalbert of Prussia and Eva Maria Küdicke.

The bride, who was born in 1988, is the daughter of Konstantine von Alvensleben and Cécilie Str
unden.

The religious ceremony took place in 15th-century St. Tugdual Cathedral in Tréguiuer.  Although the cathedral is Roman Catholic, the wedding service was Lutheran, as the priest "willingly made the church available to the bride and groom."

It was not a surprise that the couple chose Brittany for their wedding.  Aline's parents own property near the Brittany coast.   Her maternal grandmother, Anne Sarton de Jonchay, is French.

The couple's civil wedding took place on September 27, 2024, in Hamburg, which was followed by a dinner reception at Wallter's Bistro & Kontro, which is owned by Prince Philip, his twin brother, Prince Christian, and Count Marcus Caspar zu Stolberg-Wernigerode.

Princess Aline wore the Prussian Cloverleaf tiara, which Kaiser Wilhelm designed himself and gave to his wife, Empress Auguste Viktoria, as a Silver Wedding anniversary in 1906.  The taira, which has not been seen for at least six decades, was last worn by Princess Kira of Prussia (Grand Duchess Kira of Russia), the wife of the head of the Prussian Royal House, Prince Louis Ferdinand.

Prince Philipp and Princess Alene are the parents of a daughter, Princess Coralie Cécile Céleste, who was born in February.

Aline has worked for L'Oréal for more than seven years and is currently the Luxe Category Manager for Skincare.  She has a BA from FH Münster and a Master of Science from ESCP Europe.

The family lives in Hamburg.

Not long after the wedding, Prince Philipp spoke to Gala magazine.   He said his wife's family owns a vacation home in Brittany, near where the couple married. "I, too, have fallen in love with the area," he said.

Prince Georg Friedrich, head of the house of Prussia, is Philipp's third cousin and did not attend the wedding. "But he kindly lent us the trefoil diadem from the family estate."

The wedding guests enjoyed Preussen's Pilsener, which is brewed by Georg Friedrich's brewery, the Royal Preussen Beer Manufactory.

"He had it specially shipped to France, which was really great," Philipp said.   The beer is also served at the Prince's restaurant, Wallter's.

The couple's six-month-old daughter, Coralie, "was something of a star" at the wedding.  Her proud father said, "She was dressed so cute and was awake throughout the entire ceremony. The fact that she was there for everything really meant a lot to us."
