Archduke Karl of Austria, the de jure Emperor, confirmed to the Austrian newspaper, Kronen Zeitung, that he has married Christian Nicolau de Almeida Reid, his partner for the last few years.

He said the wedding took place in the spring in Portugal.  "I've always tried to keep my private life private, which is why we only married in the presence of our closest circle.  She's a wonderful woman. Now she is my wonderful wife."

It is believed that Archduke Karl, 61, and Christian Reid, were married in a civil ceremony.

This is the second marriage for Karl, the eldest son of late Archduke Otto of Austria.   His first marriage to Baroness Francesca von Thyssen-Bornemisza took place in Mariazell in January 1993.  They had three children, Archduchess Eleonore (1994),  Archduke Ferdinand Zvonimir (1997), and Archduchess Gloria (1999), before separating in 2003.   Karl and Francesca were divorced in 2017.

In a November 2020 interview with the Austrian media,  Karl said: "Christian is a cultivated and sensitive woman with elegant decency. She is a loving advisor, sometimes also a valuable critic and is always there for me, a partner in the best sense of the word. In short, she is an incredible enrichment to my life and I am happy to have her by my side."

Christian is the youngest of four daughters of Robin Reid and Elsa Andresen Nicolau de Almeida.
