The Chicago Tribune is reporting there is "great annoyance at the Court of Vienna" Emperor Franz Josef has failed to arrange a marriage between his granddaughter, Princess Elisabeth of Bavaria, and his nephew, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, who is the son of Archduke Carl Ludwig.
Franz Ferdinand is the eventual heir to the throne. He made it clear that "he found it impossible to fall in love with the princess, and unless he can make a marriage of affection he will remain single."
The archduke is "enormously rich" as he inherited the late Duke of Modena's "vast fortune.
Princess Elisabeth, who celebrated her seventeenth birthday on January 8 is the eldest of four children of Archduchess Gisela of Austria and Prince Leopold of Bavaria.
