Such sad news to report - the death of Alex Lequio di Assaba y Garcia, the 27-year-old son of Count Alessandro Lequio di Assaba and Ana Garcia y Obregon (known professionally as Ana Obregon).
Alex died today May 13, 2020, at the Clinica Quirón in Barcelona. He had suffered from cancer for several years. Earlier this year, he was admitted to a Madrid hospital several weeks ago but he was transferred to Barcelona on March 15.
Count Alessandro and Ana Obegon, who never married, rented an apartment in Barcelona so they could be with their son.
The cancer was first diagnosed in 2018. Ana put her acting career on hold to be with her son, who was treated at the Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City before returning to Spain to continue Alex's treatment. He continued to work, even in the hospital but in December he had to cancel his attendance at the Morrison shoe event in honor of the Caico Foundation.
Alessandro told the press: "This is long and hard and I cannot say more. He is optimistic and very hopeful."
Alex studied in the United States where he graduated cum laude with degrees in Philosophy and Political Science from Duke University in 2014. That November he founded Polar Marketing.

Alessandro Alfonso Lequio di Assaba y Garcia, born June 23, 1992, at the Ruber Internacional Clinic, Madrid, Spain. As he lived in Spain, he used Alejandro, rather than the Italian Alessandro.
He is survived by his parents and two half-siblings, Clemente and Ginevra, and his girlfriend, Carolina Monje who was also with him when he died. Clemente is Alessandro's son by his first marriage to Antonia dell'Atte and Ginevra's mother is Alessandro's second wife, Maria Palacios.
Clemente said his brother's last words were "Take a deep breath Enjoy life. Some of you take it for granted." On his Instagram page, Clemente wrote: "I love you Alex, an immense pain that in very small part is alleviated with the thought that you are no longer suffering. Someday we will see each other again and we will be able to enjoy all the time lost and badly spent."
Alex Lequio was a descendant of Queen Victoria. His paternal grandmother was Infanta Beatriz of Spain who married Alessandro Torlonia, 5th Prince of Civitella-Cesi. They had four children. The eldest, Sandra, married Conte Clemente Lequio di Assaba in 1958 and were the parents of two children, Alessandro, Count Lequio, and Desiree.
