Happy 100th birthday to Finland. Today in Helsinki, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway, and King Carl XVI Gustaf joined Finland's president Sauli Niinistö and his wife, Jenni Haukio.

Norway became independant and received a King as its monarch. Always surprised me that Finland at that time, never successful become a Monarchy as well. I know there was one German royal who was set to become King, but that failed and nothing came out of it.
That was the plan in 1917, when Finland because of the October revolution split from Russia, confirmed by the Brest-litovks treaty between Lenin and the German Empire. But then in 1918 Germany lost the war and became a republic, so what would be the advantage of a German princeling as head of state?
