Peter lights the Yule log

January 6, 1935

Twelve days after Christmas was celebrated in Western Europe and the United States.  young King Peter and his brothers, Prince Tomislav and Prince Andrej, celebrated Orthodox Christmas eve, which in Yugoslavia is also known as Mothers' Day.

According to the New York Times,  King Peter performed for the first the "ancient ceremony of receiving the yule log from the royal guard."  There ceremony resembles the English yule log ceremony.

Following another Serbian tradition,  King Peter and his brothers "tied their mother with a string to a chair."  In exchange for her release, Queen Marie was "forced to give her children presents.
