Thierry Gaubert, the estranged husband of Princess Helene of Yugoslavia, has been convicted of "embezzlement and misuse of corporate funds," and received a ten month suspended sentenced. He was also fined 10,000 Euros.
He was indicted last fall "for the misuse of corporate funds" and "witness tampering" in the investigation of financial fraud in the Karachi case and also for possible "secret funding" of Edouard Balladur's campaign in 1995.

Luxembourg wedding date announced
The Grand Ducal court has announced the date of the wedding of Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Countess Stephanie de Lannoy. The couple will be married on October 20th.

Victoria visits Alice's tomb

Queen Victoria and her youngest daughter, Princess Beatrice, today visited the mausoleum in Darmstadt, and "placed wreaths on the tomb of Princess Alice," reports the New York Times. Afterwards, they "started on their trip back to England."
Princess Alice was Victoria's third child and second daughter. She was the wife of Grand Duke Ludwig IV of Hesse and By Rhine. She died on December 14, 1878.

Helen leaves Romania with honors
Princess Helen left Bucharest today after spending several weeks in Romania. She received "honors usual to the departure of a foreign Princess," reports the New York Times.
Her departure "disposes of rumors of a reconciliation" with King Carol II. She returned to Romania only to see her son, Crown Prince Michael, and "to arrange her financial affairs." She apparently sold her summer residence at Sinaia to the War Ministry for $156,000.
Helen left Romania on January 2, 1931, after efforts to reconcile with her former husband, Carol. failed. She went to Sinaia to be with her son, Michael, who was ill, and then left the country.
She returned to Romania later in the year and was "welcomed by a detachment of the King's bodyguard and her personal standard was unfurled." At the time, there were unfounded rumors of yet another reconciliation attempt.
In March 1931, Helen's brother, George, the exiled King of Romania, who was married to Carol's sister, Elisabeta, came to Bucharest to intercede on her behalf. He was able to obtain for Helen "a generous allowance for her and the purchase of a villa in Florence, Italy," which has now become her permanent residence.

Princess Beatrice of York, the elder daughter of the Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York, was one of the guests at the wedding of Prince Carl-Albrecht of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg and Camilla Gräfin Schenk von Stauffenberg, at Kessel, Germany. She was accompanied by her long-time boyfriend, Dave Clark.

Camilla, 28, will take over her maternal grandfather, Count Alfred Schenk von Stauffenberg's estate at Amerdingen.
The couple have been a couple for nearly five years, and were first introduced at an event in Tegernsee. The civil wedding took place in March in Munich.
Although Carl-Albrecht, known as Charly, and Camilla plan to eventually live at Amerdingen, they will be reside for the time being in Nairoibi, Kenya, where Prince Carl-Albrecht, 35, works for a global energy provider. Camilla has been working as a banker in London.
Carl-Albrecht is the eldest of four children of Prince Ludwig of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg and Countess Yvonne Wachmeistger af Johannishus. His sister, Anna, is the wife of Prince Manuel of Bavaria. The two younger siblings, Prince August and Princess Theodora-Louise remain unmarried.
Princess Camilla is the daughter of Conrad Schloesser and and his first wife, Countess Maria Christina Schenck von Stauffenberg. Countess Maria Christina's first cousin, Countess Alexandra Schenk von Stauffenberg was the first wife of the present Prince of Hohenzollern.
The wedding service was conducted in English and in German. Father Father Paul von Habsburg and Father Daniel Maria Schmitt.
After the wedding, a reception for the guests was held in the castle's courtyard. This was followed by an evening dinner and soiree in the castle.

Royals are flocking to the Netherlands to celebrate the Silver Wedding of Queen Juliana and Prince Bernhard, reports Reuters from Amsterdam.
Members of the British, Iranian, Norwegian, Greek, Sweden, and Luxembourg royal families have already arrived. According to the dispatch, "120 foreign visitors of royal blood," are all staying at the same hotel.
Queen Elizabeth II arrived to great cheers from "thousands of persons" on the rooftop of the airport. She was dressed in a fur coat "lined with white fur over a floral dress with a white hat of fur and tulle." Crown Princess Beatrix welcomed the British sovereign, and "kissed her on the cheek as she left the plane."
Elizabeth's husband, Prince Philip, arrived later in the, "piloting a two-engine plane from Scotland." Other guests who arrived earlier include Shah Reza Pahlavi and Empress Farah of Iran, King Olav of Norway, and Prince Bertil and Princess Margaretha of Sweden.
The royal guests are staying at the Amstel Hotel, where they and their jewels are guarded by dozens of detectives.

The funeral of Lord Leopold Mountbatten was held today at the Chapel Royal, and his "body was deposited in the royal vault underneath the chapel," reports the New York Times.
Lord Leopold was the son of Princess Beatrice, and the younger brother of Queen Victoria Eugenia of Spain.
Queen Ena and members of the British royal family were present for the funeral. King George V was among those who took part in the procession, "which followed the coffin from the Windsor station to the chapel."
The coffin was "carried on a gun carriage." Earlier today the body was "privately removed" Marlborough Chapel in London and taken by special train to Windsor.

Grand Duke Boris Vladimirovich of Russia is "in disgrace again," according to the Los Angeles Times. For the past several years he has been "painting St. Petersburg and other European capitals a brilliant red on the average of once a week."
The Grand Duke is being sent to the dog house, as his first cousin, Emperor Nicholas II, is "tired of his escapades." He has ordered a "system of restrain" for his effervescent cousin, which would "make the existence of a hermit look like a gay whirl of pleasure."
Boris has received frequent warnings that his "sanguinary temperament" may lead to breaking the Emperor's laws, and bring about a "severe punishment." His family would not like him sent to the Caucasus as a punishment, but that is what might happen if he "doesn't behave, at least for a time."
He recently "broke his own record for reckless extravagance" when he gave himself "a little supper for himself and his latest affinity," which cost him $10,000.
Boris is known for "reckless extravagance." On occasion, he has smashed all the empty champagne bottles, and "then roll around until his face and hands were covered with cuts."
Nicholas II threatened to send his cousin to the Caucasus, where he would join another cousin, Grand Duke Dimitri Pavlovich, "who was banished" for paying too much attention to Nicholas II's daughter, Grand Duchess Olga. Grand Duke Dimitri is said to be in love with the Emperor's eldest daughter.
Many believe Boris will undertake another exile, and return to the United States, where he visited in 1902. He is fond of America, especially "New and Chicago," where he "was entertained lavishly."
