New conditions for Prince Laurent

The Belgian government today set "a list of conditions" it wants Prince Laurent to "abide by after a series of scandals" that even angered the prince's father, King Albert.

Prince Laurent, the king's youngest child, has been accused of visiting the Congo and meeting a Libyan diplomat, who had joined the opposition, without "any diplomatic oversight."

According to the Associated Press, Prime Minister Yves Leterme told Parliament that the conditions could have consequences for Laurent's annual allowance of $400,000.   The conditions, he said, "should make a continuation and repeat of the unacceptable activities and behavior impossible."

The conditions were not made public, but it has been made clear that Laurent's stipend would be cut "if he continues to disregard the government's advice.  King Albert has also made it clear that he "shared the anger many have with the wayward prince."

The Prime Minister and other politicians  have stressed "that a princely stipend comes with obligations."

Maybe Buckingham Palace will review these and be inspired. Listening, Andrew?

Andrew does not get paid for his trade job, nor does he receive a stipend. He receives an allowance from the Queen (in lieu of the civil list allocation), but this is not a personal allowance. The allocation goes toward the official duties, the staff salaries and so on. Andrew does not get the money to keep for himself.

The difference between Laurent & Andrew is that Andrew's dealings with foreign government's are well known & sanctioned by the British government.
Andrew hasn't disobeyed his parent & sovereign.
Downing St. or Whitehall has never told Andrew not to go anywhere & he disobeyed. Andrew hasn't been threaten with anything, matter of fact, he is in Asia now, promoting British interests.
The two situations are vastly different.
It's the British press that is making trouble for Andrew. Looking to sell papers.
